I didn't see the complete news story, but it was reported on my local FOX news tonight, that CC will now be required to give rainchecks on all advertised items, if there is no stipulation of how many per store. There was also some mention of what would happen if they did not have the minimum quantity on hand, but I did not hear this part.

Maybe someone can update us on this story.

Does this mean we can all go in to CC tomorrow & demand rainchecks for TDK 24X cd burners?

here is a story about the topic:

State claims chain broke raincheck law
Circuit City first to face crackdown on sale item limits

By Karen Talaski / The Detroit News

LANSING -- Michigan's attorney general's office is cracking down on retailers it believes have violated Michigan law by failing to provide rainchecks on advertised items.
The state's first target -- Circuit City Stores Inc. of Richmond, Va. -- is under fire over a dozen consumer complaints about its raincheck practices, Atty. Gen. Jennifer Granholm said.
In most cases, rainchecks give consumers an extension on sale prices if goods aren't available during the stated sale dates.
Michigan's Pricing and Advertising of Consumer Items Act requires a retailer to list how many discounted items it has available for sale in its circulars. Granholm said Circuit City violated the law in some circulars by stating, "No rain checks. Limited quantities."
The attorney general gave the company a 10-day period to contact the office to begin settlement negotiations. If no settlement is reached, Circuit City could face legal action.
Circuit City spokesman Bill Cimino said the complaint is unwarranted. He said Circuit City officials plan to meet with Granholm to discuss the issue.
"We are puzzled by this Notice of Intended Action. We believe we are in compliance with Michigan state law," he said.
Better Business Bureau spokeswoman Carmel Weems said she has not received any complaints about Circuit City. However, she has heard of such complaints among similar stores.
"It's unfortunately a symptom within the whole retail industry," she said.

Granholm is running for Governor this year and will probably look to drag every business in the state into court if she thinks it'll boost a "defender of the Little Guy" image.

Somebody accidentally posted in the wrong forum

How is this the wrong forum? If we people in Michigan (which, btw i did not know it was just MI) can go tomorrow & get rainchecks on the 24X TDK with $70 in MIR, then it could indeed be a hot deal.

VaG
I am sorry if you do not live in MI, to take advantage of this. Don't be jealous just because we might be able to get a hot deal that you might not have access to.:p;)

What happens when you get the rain check and the item comes in too late to send in the rebates? I assume you want them to pay the rebate at the store? Sounds good to me -- I'll go shopping for weekly specials on the last day of the sale from now on!

VaG, back off, this IS hot, especially since there are so many people who haven't or can't get in on the BB deal. And so you said you "have money" and moved to FL, you're like what, a 75 year old retiree living in a hospice/res-home? Chill man, let the mods do their work if they deem this thread doesn't belong, it's not your part.

The scenario when i found out OM does rainchecks:

The OM circular had this webcam (from a nonamer company) for free or $5 after mfr MIR, i cant remember...not that it matters anyway...the point of this is not to show what price the product was AR :)...

So i go there like monday maybe? or some SIGNIFICANT amount of time passed such that they were out of stock...so im there with my mom and of course i have no idea what a raincheck is at the time, but my mom does...so she was like "lets goto customer service, where the manager is, and ask about rainchecks" (i asked my mom what a raincheck was and she told me after she told me to goto customer service...now i know what a raincheck is)

So i go over there with my mom and she asks about the RC (im gonna use this abbreviation...typing out Raincheck is becoming a little tedious)...the manager points at this big black binder...says "open it up, print your name, phone number, etc etc whatever it asks for there, and when the shipment of Webcams comes in thursday, you are GUARANTEED to get one, and IF you do not get one before the rebate ends, then we will hold the product to THIS PRICE for YOU"

yeah so...its a NICE way to get to know what kind of customer service these places got...the staples around the corner from me has a GREAT manager, so does this OM...

I heard that CA already has a law that says stores have to give rainchecks, though usually they BS and lie to the customers. I never actually cared enough to whip out my pocket book of laws and threaten to sue though.

Some people just gotta know when to STFU!

I hate how people get their panties in a ruffle when some thread that doesn't concern them comes onto their board, I mean, THIS board. Gimme a f'in break man. Who do you think you are, the forum police? Why do people gotta stick their nose in everything? If this thread is to be LOCKED a mod will do it, anandtech has some of the best mods. I am sure they dont get paid for what they do, and do a d@mn fine job.

This is a deal, might not be hot, but its good to know that companies MUST give out rainchecks. I wanted the free docking station at CC a week ago and they had none, and guess what, there wasnt even a place for them in the store, I bet they had 1 or 2. This really would have helped me then. I think we should all complain to the Better Bisniness Bureau, I hate going to get a hot deal only to find its gone. Though it might backfire, they either wont advertise sales, or they wont have as good of sales.

A couple things.

1. CompUSA is the best when it comes to out of stock. They dont do rainchecks but they WILL do PREPAYS. Guarantees you will get the receipt with the proper date to meet requirements for MIRs. BTW they will even work it out if for some reason the merchandise comes in say a 6 weeks later and the time for mailing in the MIR has expired. (95% of the time, the merchandise is in the following week)
Only negative is that CompUSA rebates themselves only rate a C-. I have had to make a few calls to get some of them honored.

2. While this is somewhat informative and does in a sense have to do with hotdeals, I dont think it should reside here. I dont say this to belittle the poster but to suggest that maybe something like this can go in the "I wanna" or "Brag and Moan" section. Might encourage more people to bounce by there.

You obviously never finished high school since you can't read or comprehend. First of all I never said I had money or that I moved to Florida. The keyword was migrates. No one with money lives in Florida. They just stay at their second home for the winter.

Good god, man. Can't you just not be a jackass? Why do you keep checking this thread if it's not hot?
