Maybe the U.S. locations will all be replaced by Fry's. Gosh, we really need a Fry's in the Detroit area.

Americans couldn't get so lucky.
Most CC stores are too small for Fry's to fit in.

I used to work for Sun about 15 years ago and Circuit City reminds me too much of Sun. Badly managed, poor employee morale, high prices, and terrible customer service. That's why I still don't shop there. The potential one off deal where I save $10 over BB is not worth the potential hassle from shopping at CC.

I think Circuit City should change their name to "FireDog" (GeekSquad wannabe) name. Circuit City commercials used to be catchy....but their image doesnt work anymore....The stores do look beatdown whereas BestBuy has a better image.

LOL, Circuit Village?

How could they have ever fit a CC in an ex-Rat Shack location, eh?

Good riddance. CC used to be great, and I used to love shopping there. At some point their service went extremely downhill. I tried pricematching there a few times and the woman would not accept the printed text on the flier of a nearby store one time, and outright refused the other time. Their cables and such are a ripoff. Their store floor salespeople have no clue what they are selling when you have specific questions (about HD resolutions and such, for example).

Last few times I went there with the intent to buy something, ended up leaving without buying anything because their prices sucked.

They did have some good deals, got the 52" Panasonic LCD projector TV for $1000 with free delivery, and BB always charges MSRP on their TV's until the new models come out. Hardly ever any sale on them. And BB should be considered a branch of Sony, try and find a HD-DVD player in a BB.

According to this article the stores that are closing will not be open today or tomorrow. So if there is one near you that you are wondering about just call them and see if they are open.

That is my exact experience with Worst Buy.

They take company stock numbers and switch leters then won't price match anyone.
I have taken things back for refund on visa card...NOPE over $200 you will have to wait 10 days for a check from the head office on refunds that big. WTF...well visa handled it for me.

so they are better than Worst Buy.. BUT is that saying anything?

I'd rather shop at Circuit City than Best Buy, just last Saturday I bought a Wintv HVR 1600 for $74.xx with tax though it rang up as $99.99. They left a price tag on the shelf that listed it as $89.99 with a $20mir which afterwards was $69.99, so I just wanted them to match the $89.99 price tag, but they went ahead and dropped it to $69.99 instead. It'd be even sweeter if there was a mir form in the box I could send in attempt to get the mir.

I was really starting to like Staples compared to the others even though I rarely seem them mentioned here. They have great online ebates. Had some good deals for awhile last year. Then ...... nothing. Hardly a deal to be had. They should really try and get back in the game.
I also have a BB and OD next to each other near me. Neither is very enticing but looking back I may have only bought 2 or 3 little things at OD in my life. Thats for me personally or for any customers. I did get a lcd monitor once because they were literally next to the customer but I had to return it so it doesn't count. How could such a large retailer, so easily available to me, selling me my fav product for home and work, not even register on the radar? But then again I have a Fry's in my town so its tough to compete on price.

If Circuit City goes under, leaving many towns with only Best Buys, I wonder what chain will rise to take Circuit City's position in the marketplace. I'm hoping that it's Frys.

CC was good for one thing only... laptops w/ a rebate and another hidden online rebate... picked my wife up a Toshiba 15.4" for $250 after rebates.

All you CC-bashing haters should remember one thing: If Beast Buy has no competition, then prices will go up up UP!!!

I got my Sony 51" HDTV for HALF-PRICE from CC three years ago and my HTiaB was 20% cheaper in the system than the already low priced marked on the shelf. My Canon G3 was OOS at my local CC, so they called and held it at another one. I go there and instead of giving me the $50 GC for future purchases, the manager just knocked it off my camera purchase on the spot without me even asking. And I saved $20 on Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas thanks to PMing BB with the CC ads. I frequently used CC ads to burn BB cuz I have Reward Zone.

I found out the store next to Eastland Mall in Detroit is one of the victims when I went with my g/f to return something y'day. We had to go to Roseville to take it back. The store was always packed, so we're surprised it's being shuttered.

I, too, was thinking it'd be nice to get a Fry's but that ain't gonna happen.

yeah im actually kinda sad to see CC closing... I have had better customer service experience from CC and they are much more lenient on PM's. I also like the fact that they are very easy to haggle with on open box items. BB on the other hand treats me like shi*t and I always leave feeling like I did not get my money's worth.

just my 2 cents, ymmv =)

I usually shop at my Staples cause they give me no hassle with pricematching other stores and their own website.

The managers words "I have no problem taking your money so I will do what I can"

It is only *some* CC's. Those that are in an area where they are not making any profit. All the others will continue to operate just fine.

I rather see a CC next to BB just for the competition factor. If they are the lone store left, you will get even worse service at higher prices.

I'm having a hard time imagining the service at Best Buy getting worse, short of clubbing you when you enter the store and stealing your money.

Its always fun to beat them at their own game. They have a DVD player with an online rebate. Went to the store and didn't know the price was online only, and they wouldn't honor it. What did I do? Went to their little web site kiosk in store, made my purchase, went to the customer service area, told them I'd like to pick up my order, and they brought it right to me. I'll be damned if they think I was was going to waste gas driving all the way home to buy it online and drive back again to pick it up.

They aren't what you expect from CC , mostly cell phones and kids RC toys,
perhaps thats why they are closing.
Mall near me has opened a second "the source" maybe 50% bigger and all TVs
from what I could see...

Yep. CC used to have great customer service when they paid commission. Now you get ignored by the pimple-faced prick behind the counter just like everywhere else!
