Meydey,

Funny. I was at the South Center CC yesterday and they would not order it for me. When they pulled it up on the computer it was priced at 39.96 and they said that the .96 meant it could not be ordered. I went to the Bellevue CC today and they ordered me one with no problems.

Look at the writing on the memory chips that do not have a sticker on them. If you check my pic in the post above you can see VT and some smaller numbers and letters. Post the writing that you see on the memory chips.

Didn't know that there were different chips. I received my order and all three were Hynix HY5DU28822AT-H.

Just wanted you to know, I got the same chips.

VT
5A 0150
VT3225804T-75

Not sure who made the chips. Perhaps Virginia Tech has built a fab;)
I don't think they are Hynix (Hyundai). I also got the impression from Centon's site that these might be registered (Sure doesn't make sense based on the price  )

I placed a special order on the evening of 1/29/02 and got a phone call today 2/3 at noon saying they were in. I sure hope the chips are good (Building a system from scratch, and I'm not going to have an extra DDR capable motherboard laying around to test them in :( )

If it matters, my CC is located in central Jersey.

Raycer who made the chips on your sticks of memory?

This is just pure speculation. I'm guessing that Centon buys memory chips from different manufacturers (probably according to price). I'm wondering if the VT on the chips that Lanyap and I got could have been manufactured by VisionTek, I think that they manufacture memory as well. I went to their site and found this page http://www.visiontek.com/releases/11_12_01.shtml

Centon's website also has a press release saying that the manufacture memory for SUN (I know there are different grades of memory, but that tells me that they make a good product)

I don't know much about VisionTek and I am just taking a guess that comes right out of left field. My connection is a bit sluggish right now, so I am going to stop for tonight.

Anbody else have any guesses?

Its starting to sound like the Hyundai chips aren't what they should be. Mine are the VT chips, and I'm having no probs at all. Did the Hynix (Hyundai) chips have any sort of PC2100 label?

Keep it, or sell it for a profit on eghey :) Seriously, unless the ram doesn't work at all when you try it, I'd reccomend keeping it or selling it. You could probably even make at least $10-$20 selling it on the for saletrade forums.

So far it looks like the RAM works great for the majority of the people, and overclocks pretty good. I will be testing my sticks when they get here (supposedly Wednesday) and will let you know my results.

I cancelled my S/O (2 sticks) @ CC decided to go with Crucial. CC called me this morning & said it was in. So if there is anyone in the St. Louis area looking for a stick or two of this memory it's @ the Ellisville CC off Manchester Road. :)

asjdfl;ajsd;lfjasdl;fjasl;dfjlaksjflasdjf, The East Lansing, MI CC finally allowed me to special order my memory. Sorry this is kindof a worthless post, but you have no idea how excited I am after trying to deal with CC employees, things finally went my way!!!

Does anyone else have the hynix chips and can confirm that they are stable at pc 2100 266mhz? I won't be ocing them I just want them to work right. I won't be installing them until webnesday and I don't want to open the package until i'm sure I will keep them.

Thanks for any help

I'll just say again. My stick is unstable at 266Mhz CL2 and it is flaky at 266Mhz CL2.5. After I installed it, my PC would BSOD on me and do a memory dump randomly. I think it's got to be the memory since I never had this problem before.

I'm going to ask the same thing that Jhill did, but I would like to know about everyones luck with the VT chips. (I haven't even ordered a DDR motherboard yet and trying to figure out if I should return the sticks if they seem problematic to others)

Doggiedog Hynix or VT?

I also wrote an email to Centon asking who manufactured the VT chips (I cant find the info anywhere, I found the codes for the big guys like Hynix, Micron, Samsun, Nanya, etc but I still can't be sure who made the VT marked chips.)

Mine are Hynix. I'm at work so I can't give you the part #s just yet.

Obviously you can tell I'm disappointed. I think it's better off for me to pull the stick than leave it in cause it's causing me problems. I don't want to put it up for sale either because I think that would be unethical.

Yes, I agree. That's why I basically said above, if it doesn't work don't keep it. CC should be ok about returning that, or perhaps centron would replace it for you if you want to try that route. I bet CC would be fine if you returned that though.

I went in and was told by the guy I talked in the computer area that "We can't special order if we don't carry it in the store."

WTF?

I went up front and special ordered through the guy behind the counter... He then placed an order for himself :)

Repost: This Hynix stuff will do cas2 at 133 with the fastest timings. It'll do 150+ at cas2.5. I have 2 sticks in my ECS K7s5a that ran 3dmark2001 for 10 hours at 150 cas2.5/fast/6/3. You might get a bum stick but that happens with all brands. Replace it if you have problems.

This stuff runs exactly the same speed as my Crucial sticks. At 150+ mhz you might have to back the timings off to "normal" or fast" but it's worth the extra mhz to do it.
