Glad I could help you guys out, now all I have to do it to get the CC lazy's around MSU to do this for me!

Uwannawhat, I am on the same track as you toward building my new computer! We will probably come out with the same system specs :p.

<< Thans Lanyap (whatever kind of name is that?). I will give that a try! >>

Let us know if it works. FYI, Lanyap is a simpler spelling of Lagniappe which is a Cajun idiom meaning "a little something extra"?like the thirteenth donut in a baker's dozen. I lived in New Orleans most of my life and thought this was an appropriate name for the Hot Deal forums. I'm always looking for a little something extra with hot deals.

HOT UPDATE!!!

I just got off the phone with Circuit City. The guy (thank god) that I talked to really helped me out. I had him check the stock around MSU (East Lansing) thinking that he would find nothing, but to my surprise he found some memory in the warehouse. He said that it is on order to be shipped to their store. I left a name and number. I was just at that store and they found nothing about 3 days ago. Moral of the story, there is memory still out there, you just have to keep at it, if you turn up nothing today, have them check their warehouses tomorrow. Happy hunting!

Tried it in Fresno CA, it worked. When he checked the warehouse to order from it had like 188 sticks or something, so I ordered 5 of em. At first he said that circuit city didn't even sell DDR ram, then I showed him the printout from the internet with the model number and stuff, then he checked the inventories from nearby stores he said they didn't have any, but I had brought a friend and we kept telling him that we knew someone who ordered it, and it was possible to special order and he finally did it. For some reason he did 5 seperate entries of 1 256 meg stick each, instead of quantity 5, but it worked. I got 5 on order. He said they might get here wednesday (the day the warehouse delivers to that store). So it worked for me! Thanks guys. I also checked for some of those $.89 cent 24 cd wallet things, but no luck. When I get it, I'll let you know what chips and stuff.

Bad luck for me.
My 2 sticks didn't work. BSODs out the wahzoo.
Gigabyte GA-7DX, tried each by themselves still a no go.
Fail safe settings in bios. Updated bios F6
Worked at this awhile before replying, wanted to be sure
it was the memory. I'm sure now, put in a stick Crucial and all is well.
Called Centon support, gave me a load about the GA-7DX
needing ECC mem. I told him the Crucial wasn't and it ran fine.
Well I hope everyone has better luck than me.

ECC? I'm not aware of ANY motherboards that REQUIRES ECC. Some special server ones require registered or buffered... but I think ECC is always an option.
What about timing? I think default timing on this is CAS 2.5, were you running it at 2 or 2.5 or...?

defalt 2.5
fail-safe options on bios
I think the guy was just making excuses about ECC
Crucial - cas 2 no problems
Seems I just some bad sticks, strange that both are bad.

Exactly what my contact @ CC did when I asked if I could (specail order (SO)) it. He first checked the local warehouses that deliver to that store. OOS for me but he still SO'd it for me.

Have 'em check the warehouse that delivers to that store you may be pleasantly surprised. :)

Raycer: Are you going to return the memory to CC, or try to get a replacement from centron? You might want to consider trying the memory in another mobo if you have access to another with DDR access...

Edited because I re-read the post and noticed you DID try one stick at a time :)

I got my 1.8A Ghz P4 (Northwood) and GA-8IRXP yesterday and these DDR chips are running just fine at CAS2 all the way up to 266MHz. I am running test on my system now overclocked to 2.3GHz and all seems to be well. :)

I'm just returning the memory to CC.
I wish I did have access to another DDR board,
because this has bugged me for 3 days. 3 format
reinstalls, 2 power supplies, trying every nvidia driver,
I think I covered most everything I could. When I
popped in that Crucial and everything worked, that sealed it.
I hesitated mentioning this on the thread,
because my experience seems to be isolated.
I don't want to sway anyone away from this deal.

Raycer, your expereince is not isolated. I had the same problem. I had to set the memory to default in my Epox 8K7A to get the stuff to run stable at 266DDR. The Crucial is much better ram. I was thinking of taking mine back for a refund. But, I tossed the original packing for one of the sticks. Anyone want to but 2 sticks? I paid $91.31 with tax and shipping.

i was going to buy this stuff but after reading someone having problems getting it to run CL2, i just went ahead and got the crucial pc2100 ddr for $152.99 (plus tax).

there is always that mushkin online order special on 512MB basic PC2100 ddr sdram (CL2.5)for $113 (i believe the shipping was somewhere in the $6). not sure how good this stuff is at overclocking though.. they also have the special ddr (CL2) for $149..

never dealt with mushkin before which is why i went with crucial (since it's a a division of micron) felt alittle more secure plus i've purchased stuff from them before..

My special order DDR came in today and I just picked it up. I don't recognize the chips. I've been searching the web trying to figure it out. Can anybody id these memory chips?

VT
5A 0150
VT3225804T-75

The stick has 1 bank of 8 chips. The packaging says it's "DDR MemoryPOWER DDR 266 32x64 184 pin DIMM". When I check the Centon site the only thing close is this which says it's registered:

486 | 32MX64 | (32MX8)*8 | 1 | PC1600/PC2100 | 4K 1.700" | C_HIT_T_8SW486G

Newegg has this DDR also and their ....PIC.... shows the same memory chips that I have. I posted this question in General Hardware but nobody has responded with an id.

I don't plan to OC but I hope these are not some cheapy generic brand of chips. :|

Remember people, if you don't want the memory you can always eghey it... Or sell it in the for sale/trade forum. Currently the lowest pricewatch price is about $50 with $10 shipping for generic 256 megs DDR 2100. Personally I bought the amount I did (4) with the full intention of selling a couple of them... (I'll use 1 or two in a cheap computer I'm building for someone) who knows, perhaps RAM prices will go up still further.

Once I get my order I'll let you know what chips they are, and I'll try and do a little overclocking if I can.

CC website still has it for $39.99 (still OOS). Someone earlier said when they talked to a CC CSR this past week it was only on sale until this Saturday (2/2). So it looks like the deal is still good. However, since my chips are still unknown you may want to think twice about getting this for your high performance/main rig. I posted in GH and nobody has id'ed them yet. Since this is the same DDR RAM that Newegg sells for $71, I found this ....PIC.... that shows the same chips I received.

I'm having some trouble getting my special order. Looks like they might be out of stock in the northeast warehouses. I ordered 5 sticks from my store yesterday in Buffalo and got a call this morning. The lady told me the warehouse no longer carries it. Anyone else successful in getting the RAM in the northeast?
