Here is a question...

it was pointed out that the $.10/minute plans have unlimited mobile to mobile. Does this count as the voice usage in a day that would cause a $1 charge, or is it off network voice usage? (IE - could 2 people each buy a phone, buy minimum cards whenever required, and use them for unlimited calls to eachother without paying anything for them?)

Yeah, i'm curious about that too.

I've been happy with Virgin Mobile now for four months. Picked up a Kyocera K9 for $40 at Walmart and got a $10 credit when I activated. If you use a credit card to "top off" the account ($20 every 90 days) you get a $5 credit also. Uses the Sprint PCS network which works well here in SW Va.

has anyone bought this phone and then stuck in a regular SIM from regular cingular service to confirm that it works?

I have this exact phone from Cingular. It was one of the free phone deals and I really like the Sony phones. I would think it's the same firmware in the phone, so you should be able to switch it out with no problems. I can't confim that they didn't do something different to lock it though.

PS=If you buy the Sony Ericsson usb cable to sync the phone, you can download free ringtones and games. You can use any midi ringtone you want. Games are in Mophun format, but only a few work. I suggest syndroid 😉. Sony even released a pretty good skinning program. 3rd party devs released some too, and now I have a sick HL2 theme on my T237.

Looks like any use counts...

$0.10 per minute: includes Unlimited Mobile to Mobile calling and $1.00 per day access charge only on days when you use your service.

Sorry if this is a newbie question, but can you unlock this phone to use with the T-mobile pay-as-you-go plan? I basically like T-mobile's $100/1000 minutes plan since the minutes don't expire until 365 days. Thanks in advance.

Yes it can be unlocked... I do like about 15-20 of them a month... not to self promote but PM me for more questions about unlocking or using overseas....

It won't work in Germany even if you get it unlocked, it's dual band only.

I ordered on the 19th. Yesterday, I received a backordered notice. 🙁

I ordered on the 14th, got same email. Automated tel#, says will ship within 10-business days.

Ok, so with $25 you get 250 minutes. Over 90 days is 2.7 minutes per day. That's like 2 or 3 phone calls per day.

I can't survive on that. Free nights and weekends are what keep my plan sweet. $20 per day piggybacking someone elses sprint.

I am having a hard time trying to port my number from another carrier to this prepaid phone. Cingular is giving me the run around. I am considering returning the phone. Just thought you might like to know.

hmmm
noob question here

can you just order the phone and not sign up for any plan? this would be a sweet backup phone if it's unlockable

Just buy the phone, when you do, you're asked to signup for a "plan", but since you're not actually buying any minutes, you're not being charged at all for it.

got tired of waiting......so
I picked up a new, unlocked T237 with $30 cingular prepaid airtime
(N.Y. tel#, but .25/min days, .10 nights & weekends & .10 mobile to mobile
(I hope I can refill this card on this plan?, 2-SIM cards, car charger, headset for $71 shipped.

but guess what you can't cancel your Cingular order once
it is placed, even if it hasn't shipped or is on backorder.
Rep said I will either have to refuse it or send it back on
my own dime when it comes off backorder.

Where do you get the .25 days, .10 n&w and 0.10 m-to-m deal? Can you buy a SIM card with these rates and just plug it into the phone in this deal (when they come in)? Can you just buy the SIM card alone? I'm a little confused on how this all works.

Thanks.

You can't get it from cingular directly, the sim card that is coming with phone from ebay is a prepaid cingular sim with $30 airtime, w/new york tel#... I hope it can be refilled at these rates.. search ebay for prepaid cingular sims, or T237 phone to find vendor I got mine from.. said he had 10-phones available.

This was only $16 more than cingular.com deal & I will get phone unlocked, 2-sims, car charger & possible lower per minute weekend & mobile to mobile rates.

Well, I did a quick ebay search and it looks like the sim card with those rates is avaialble by itself, without the need to purchase a phone. But, it says an unlocked phone is required for use of the card. Are the phones in this deal (the ones we are all waiting for) unlocked?

The sims avaialble on ebay don't say anything about being able to be refilled. How can you tell if they are refillable? Aren't all prepaid sims refillable? I'm still confused.

Thanks.

The phone has to be either unlocked (can be used on any network), or locked to Cingular (which of course means, it can only be used on Cingular). The phones we're waiting for will be of the second type, locked to Cingular, which will work fine.

Thanks for that clarifying information MJGunn.

It would be nice if we can get some information on the sim available on ebay. I like that rate structure but only if it is refillable. Not too crazy about the NY phone number though...
