Unbefreakingleavable.... <is that a word?>

Everything south of Tampa is pretty much dead right now, CSR's are saying at least 2 days till its back up, if not 3.....

What the hell could have happened to screw up such a large area so badly?

Er, duh. lol @ me.

BTW, did you get lots of rain and hale near you? All afternoon it was raining, and when we were about to leave it REALLY started coming down. Hale, windy as hell, and tons of rain. And my umbrella was in my car.

Wow, sounds like a total failure of a BSC (Base station - Computer that talks to the Cell sites) or even worse a Switch MSC (Computer for the whole Market that the BSC's talk to).

If it is a BSC, they'll be able to stick some sites on another BSC temporarilly but not all the sites would fit. (I did this for New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina).

However if it is the Switch itself, SOL

Fastest they can get back online is to bring in a SOW (Switch on Wheels - actually on a Tractor Trailer) until the main one can be replaced or repaired.

They may ask for help. T-Mobile could allow Cingular subscribers on their Network (Did that during Katrina as well) but billing would have to be turned off for both Networks.
Obvious big bucks so big negotioan would have to take place for that to happen.

Probably not enough of an area affected for that to happen unlike Katrina.

Good luck

I was pissed about this earlier. I kept getting network busy when I tried to use my phone in Lakeland. Had to wait until I got closer to Tampa before I could use my phone again.

We had a fiber line cut in in AZ that dropped most of Sprint from the West Coast to the Rockies last winter.

They were back online in a day.

you'd think there would be a greater level of redundancy or failover...then again, there probably are many many safeguards

hrm.....I think unlock phones are better in this situation. I know in my unlocked phone, i can pickup other carrier services signals (mainly just t-mobile)
