If anyone smokes cigars and owns a humidor, here is a link to a great hydrometer that is very accurate for me (within 1% RH). It usually goes for $20 but cut down to $10 at your local store with coupon !

Make sure to do a salt-calibration test to see how accurate your hydrometer is and to compensate whenever you look at it.

Has great features such as backlight, high/low temp/humidity, digital temperature in increments of 0.1 F and relative humidity in 1 degree increments.

By the way, it is meant to use indoors in your home so it serves multiple purposes !

Too bad we can't bring Cubans back from Canada. Something about an embargo applying to importing through another country?

Any humidor that is lined with spanish cedar and a thickness of about 3/4 inches should do the job as long as there are not any leaks. Depending on the quantity of cigars it'll hold be prepared to spend AT LEAST $100 for a 25-50 cigar humidor. You can also actually make a "coolerdor" simply out of an ice chest, spanish cedar, wet green plant foam, and a travel soap dish with perforations to act as a humidifier. Of course for aesthetics this wouldn't really do, but many cigar aficianados who collect a lot of cigars use this method to store excess cigars because it's cheap and it gets the job done !

Take a look at this site and see for yourself.

Hope this helps !

Just a small correction. Unless I'm mistaken, this is a hygrometer not a hydrometer. A hygrometer is for measuring relative humidity in air, a hydrometer is for measuring specific gravity of a fluid.

But a good deal non-the-less.

A digital hydrometer for $10 would be an even better deal for those of us with aquariums.

Search eBay for "humidor supreme 100" (no quotes) and you will find a very nice model. Paid just under $50 for mine, including shipping. That's about half of what they sell for in my local cigar shop.

Thanks DKim81 for the heads up. Got mine from Radio Shack and it's working fine. Perfect size and shape. More accurate than the analog unit that came with my humidor, plus it's nice to be able to monitor temperature as well.

Great deal, although I have to admit I'm partial to analog hygrometers when it comes to my humidor.

My local Radio Shack had none of these in stock :( But, I got some hot info for AT readers...

Go to the register and tell them that you want to buy it "DIRECT2U" and show the coupon printout from this thread. They will take your address and your payment ($9.99 + local tax) and they will mail the gizmo to you with FREE SHIPPING! They said that it should arrive at my house within 7 days, and they provide a tracking number so you can check the status.
