Arturo Fuente 8-5-8 Maduro

Can't agree more - this has my every day cigar (one on the way to work, one after dinner - sometimes one on the way home if it has been a fun day...) for about 10 years now and it rarely dissapoints. When it comes to Fuentes I'm also a big fan of Hemingway Maddies, the Anejos, and the rare opportunity I get my hands on Opus Maduros.

Try the sampler at Holts - I am getting one just to try the Cameroon Sand Shark.

Anyone else here over at CF too?

He gets them from a reputable duty free shop offshore

Heh - I just got off a Caribbean cruise and every single duty free shop, both reputable and not, sold fakes except for one in Nassau named John Bull, and those were insanely priced (Hello, $29 for a single Partagas S.D #3, $89 for a fiver sleeve of MC#4's!!)

Some were good fakes, some were just awful (as bad as the glass-top box fakes you see in Mexico.) With that one single exception however, they were all fake, every single one.

All the good makers have left Cuba. Cubans are not any better than top non-Cubans. I'd rather have a Graycliff, Rocky Patel, Cohiba, or Partagas. "My friend" had a cuban Cohiba and it wasn't as good as a Cohiba I can buy at the store.

Forgot my 2nd favorite: Padron 1967 Anniversary Series Torpedo. Becoming more and more difficult to find. I can't find the 1926s in retail anywhere!

i have some very good nc's also, opus, ashtons, padrons. those are great cigars. IMO cohiba is the most overrated overpriced cigar out there. Id much rather have any cuban partagas, punch rs 11, ryj over a cohiba.

I don't usually buy Cohibas because they are pricey. "My friend" has also had a RyJ that was no where near as good as one I can buy at the store. I also think Graycliff is a little over priced but they are very nice. I think Rocky Patel is one of the finest you can buy for the price.

Off topic a little bit, but will a few people please recommend an online site to buy cigars? I see people recommend Holts and JR up there - but has anybody had success with them?

I only ask because I bought a fair bit from cigarbid.com, then I had one or two orders from JR, all of which seemed to be dry and not well maintained by the time they arrived in the mail - so now I only buy locally at the nearby cigar shop.

So - which online cigar retailer do you guys know ships their cigars in good shape? I basically got tired of having to try to recondition them in my 75-cigar humidor here at the house. What I want is to get them from the retailer in perfect smoking condition.

question about the glass-top fakes: i assume any box with a glass top is going to be fake... right?

That is correct. They have never been available in glass-top boxes.

1964 - they are wonderful cigars. I invested in a bunch of the Christmas gift boxes just to get the "A" size (an absolutely delicious cigar!). Before I left for the cruise I spent a week in Miami hunting down the perfect Cuban Sandwich and smoking cigars in the Padron Headquarters - the folks there (Rudi) were quite generous and even offered an unreleased diadema that really knocked my socks off 🙂

Call around to a few different stores, the Padrons are not difficult to find.

cigarsinternational.com owns cigarbid

CIGARAUCTIONEER.COM

holts

purchased from all of these vendors with no problems

never bought from jrcigar online because I have an outlet 20 minutes from my house

ps..while buying online is usually cheaper, try and support your local b&m also

Famous Smokes and Cigar International are the two I usually buy from. I have also bought from Thompsons but I don't think their prices are that great unless you want a humidor deal.

The problem is that my B&M store is rife with idiots. I'd love to support a good business... but I dislike supporting people who don't know anything about their business.

I've never had a problem with Famous Smoke, and they have some good deals sometimes. I like their fast but cheap shipping, plus if you ever have to actually talk to someone, they are nice as can be.
