You really can't find this church unless you know where it is because of hedges in front, the sign is just to say it's there and to give service times. It's not going to have any other messages on it. They just want the service times to be easy to change.

No flamewars in the thread please. If you hate the sign, say so - that's what I want to know. Ranting about churches, Christians and signs in general isn't going to help me convince the church not to put up the bright lighted sign.

I voted against, 19 years old.

It just feels very corny. It also is setting yourself up to be screwed around with.

Interchangable signs bring to mind gas stations and flea markets. When I think religious buildings, I think lots of marble and stone, that's what my vote would be for... I also think a lot of it has to do with how the church itself looks. They should be in some sort of agreement in design. I am 27.

I'm pretty much indifferent to them, and would just prefer that they be tasteful rather than tacky. Also, with the ones that allow for changeable messages, would prefer to see messages that are positive and in good taste.

Someone out there is making money from all those google ads, especially if the site can reach as deep into the internet as 100 guaranteed clicks from people on AT.

There aren't enough neon church signs.

"GODS PLACE *blinking orange arrow pointing to the door*"

Yup. That's pretty much what the purpose of Christ's life was.

of those who don't go to church or believe in God, who the hell wants to constantly read/see signs that constantly telling them that they'll go to hell or that Jesus is the only way to heaven, etc.?

if anything, the ONLY messages they should put up are upcoming events or something... for example, "church services: 8, 9, 10:30" or "weekend picnic - anyone can come. no religion needed," or something like that. something that's welcoming and not in-your-face advertising for God or something... no one gives a crap about scripture... stop posting it.

So... christians can have freedom of speech...as long as you dont have to hear it???
Hmmmm...:roll::roll::roll: ...Well thats a real good attitude to have there.

Perhaps you need to listen to the speech at the end of "The American President" again. '

I dont recall " Freedom from having to hear your opponents views " being in the constitution.

wtf are you talking about? when did i ever talk about taking away their freedom of speech? i'm just saying it's a dumb thing to do. if they want people to come to God and if they want people to join the church, that's not a good way of doing it... it's just annoying and makes people reject God even more.

I like the signs, my church has one. But I believe that they are better used if they list upcoming events that the surrounding community is invited to instead of one of those cute sayings.

lets see that costume.

Voted. 100.

I'm 24 and agree with mugs, A nice brick signage, somthing nice and permanent with the churchs name is good. I don't really know how effective the slogans that most churches put on the sign are , though it could be used like schools around her use it, to announce upcoming events. I like a basic sign, so thats what I voted for, but the lettered sign could work as well. Just don't try to put up the clever witticisms, as they aren't funny. And if you start to do so then someone is going to have to be clever once a week and that's not easy.

29, but nearly 30.

Meh. Most changeable letter signs like that look very tacky. Are you:
A) a place of worship (well-built church building, caring members, and tasteful permanent sign), or
B) a used car salesman looking to scam another customer (run down building, seedy workers, and changeable sign)?
FoBoT linked some that aren't too bad, but most are horrible looking. However, this is just my opinion on asthetics.

Then you have to consider the creativity and intentions of the person who puts the messages up. I've seen churches with religious messages, with uplifting but non-religious messages, and anger/fear/hate inciting messages. Which type of message does your congregation want? Does that match the type of messages that will actually be on the sign? If they don't match, don't get a changeable sign. Even if they do match, and the sign preparer isn't creative, don't get a changeable sign.

If your church can put together a tasteful, changeable sign, with good and creative messages, then go for it. I bet 99% of churches can't do that, so most shouldn't go for it. Since I don't know your church, I'll go with statistics and vote NO.

Another vote for "tacky".

When I see those I think diner, car wash, or oil change shop. They just seem out of place in front of a church.

The sign should be an extension of the church itself. If the church is brick, the sign should be built from the same brick. If the church is stone, the sign should be of the same stone.

Bad pictures, unfortunately. At least, to my mind.
