I am having an issue on both my work laptop and home PC. I noticed it on my laptop awhile back but was ignoring it since I rarely watch any videos at work. I was just forced to reload my home machine and when I was done I started having the same issue.

When I play certain local .wmv files, the video comes out like the screenshot. I have the default codecs loaded on the laptop and if I remember, I loaded the Catalyst 5.6 drivers (but it was happening before as well). My home machine has the 5.7's, indeo, and Divx 6 (tried 5.2 as well).

I havent had a chance to try this at home yet but here's something odd on the laptop: CNN embeded video shows up like the screenshot (duh) but MSN embedded video plays fine. I guess whatever the difference is between these 2 video types is where my problem lies.

Sorry for the huge picture, no PS at work. :)

The laptop is a Dell Latitude D610 with a Radeon X300, my home pc is a P4 3.0C with a 9800Pro.

I had a problem similar to this one, the problem most likely is a driver issue with your video card. Try searching this in the video forum, I remember seeing some previous threads regarding this matter.try installing the newest drivers for your video card, if that doesn't help try installing some older drivers.

long shot but uh...

goto: tools/options/performance/advanaced

and try turning down hardware acceleration to halfway.

it's worth a shot.

You might try installing WMP10 also if you are still using WMP9.
