maybe apps made by nvidia can directly access the hardware, like a simple driver. it doesn't need dx10 libraries and such because it has everything it needs built in.

reading comprehension FTW!

OP no where does it say anything about DX10 demos. It simply says that it released G80 demos.
It's probably utilizing some features that it can do in DX9 to utilize some of the features of the G80 without going into DX10.
BTW, you spelled COMPREHENSION wrong. I fixed it for ya though ;)

It's been a while since I've mucked with any of Nvidia's demos, but their old-school GeForce 1/2 demos used OpenGL. Though it seems these demos aren't using any new SM4 features, it's entirely possible to utilize SM4 through OpenGL on XP if the OpenGL drivers are up to speed.

Yup, vendor specific OpenGL extensions can access SM 4.0 functionality regardless of the state of DirectX.

Actually, earlier yesterday when they had originally posted the article, the article title had DX10 in place of G80. In fact, in looking at the article, I would assume Theo changed it as I emailed them about it right before I posted. The article has changed significantly since it was originally aired.

So, you emailed Theo about the mistake, you posted, and withing 16 minutes, Theo was able to read his email, and update the website? Shens.

You're assuming that SunnyD was the first person to send an email about the error. There could have been 50 emails ahead of his in their Inbox concerning the article. Or possibly they noticed the error themselves and changed it.

Wow, what a nice, neat little explaination. Anyone care to add a third possibility? Shens.

Can you prove that they didn't change it? Shens.

How is my "nice, neat little explanation" any less plausible than your "nice, neat little explanation"?

Who cares?

Apparently you do. Otherwise you wouldn't have wasted your time "calling shens".

Who cares? While it is of course possible that the INQ did something wrong, I think the OP just read the title wrong in haste. And it's not a big deal that I said it either. Unless you want it to be.

Given their track record, I'd say the likelyhood of the Inquirer doing "something wrong" is relatively high. ;)

Of course. And I would agree if the OP's explanation wasn't so fishy. So, I say shens, and you say no shens. Doesn't really change the world for the better or worse either way.

Why can't people delete inner quotes? God, it's so annoying and my poor fingers gettin' Carpul Tunnel from all the mouse wheelin'.

I downloaded all three demos last night and played 'em on my 8800GTX. The frog and girl demos were a bit slow, but I think that's because I have 16x Quality AA and 16x Quality AF forced in the drivers. I doubt nVidia set such high quality settings in the original program itself.

Now, they need to mix the froggy program with the girl program so I can prod the girl and pull on her .
