he isnt completely overrated, hes just one dimensional, and its hurting him now. mma has evolved and his time has come and gone, and it doesnt look like hell be able to adapt.
his striking ability is crazy, the first round of that fight is a testament to that fact. all he does is punch guys in the face and go for knockouts. jardine had a great plan, he weathered the storm and took away all of chucks power and that was that.
Wow, I've never seen a 5 year champion of a sport called overrated after suddenly being dethroned. His technique is fine. He's incredibly hard to takedown, so he doesn't NEED a ground game.
Even his recent losses were not because of a ground game. And Jardine barely weathered the storm. He said himself that he was seeing stars after the first round.
Anyways, I'm not saying that he's god or anything, but he was the champ for 5 years and is one of the all time greats. But there is nothing wrong with his techniques. He hits really fucking hard and it knocks guys out.
Sorry but his technique needs improvement, his taken down defense and sprawl are GREAT but... evans studied him and figured him out before the fight. Evans is NCAA champ wrestler, but he knew taking Liddell down would be almost impossible. Hell Randy couldn't do it. Evans fought the exact fight he should have, considering he was given almost zero chance of beating Chuck, he looked pretty damn good.
Chuck is FAR from done, the shot that Rashad hit him with would have KTFO anyone. But his stand up defense needs work, I'm no boxer or MMA specialists but he leaves his arms way too low with his chin exposed and waiting to get hit.
Even with Evans having figured out Chuck, if they rematched it could see go either way, as easy as Chuck's style is to adapt to for a striker, you still have to factor in that he has cement blocks for hands. Evans was a millisecond away from being on the recieving end of one of Chuck's KO bombs.
I especially liked Evan's Fed Sanford 'this is the big one!' dance at the end, I wish they hadn't cut to Chuck on the ground until after, I laughed my ass off, it was almost a perfect Sanford impersonation. Evans proved he has power, it's not easy to knock out Chuck, nobody has ever put him away like that. Evans Vs maybe Forrest for the title. Or Evans Vs Machida for #1 contender. I would like to see Evans win the title and somehow Chuck earn a rematch so they can fight again. That was one of the most brutal KO's I've seen in UFC since Gongaza got Crocop. Evans showed a lot of speed, technique and power. Chuck needs to hit the Gym and come back and win a few more before he retired.
But even if he doesn't fight again, or fights a few more and looses them. Chuck is a legend and had one of the best winning streaks in MMA (against quality opponents that is) I'm not really an Iceman fan but I give him his respect. And after Saturday I think Evans might be on the road to earning a top 5 spot in the rankings.
