I was sad when I first found out that the Chrono Trigger Resurrection Project was canceled. Chrono Trigger is an awesome game that would benefit greatly from a 3D remake using today's technology. It's unfortunate that a totally free, independent remake cannot be produced because of IP rights. I understand that they want to protect the legacy of CT and reserve for themselves the possibility of doing a CT remake in the future, but a faithful remake of the game would be incredible.
A Chrono Trigger anime movie, or possibly a mini series like they did with Tales of Phantasia (which wasn't too good), animated by Toriyama/Bird Studio (of DB/DB:Z,GT fame) would be perfect. Akira Toriyama was the character designer for Chrono Trigger and he handled the cutscenes for the PS1 port (you can tell by his distinctive drawing style, with Crono looking a lot like a red haired Goku or SS4 Gogeta, and Magus looking a bit like Vegeta). Someone already made a full movie script (I haven't read it yet), but it's doubtful that SE would even consider it. If there was even a chance they would, I would make one myself
