Just playing through the DS port of it, still in all its 16bit sprite glory though. 2nd time I've played the game and I'm loving it again! Such amazing atmosphere and music!

The nearly perfect game.

Can't have some love without hate. All the Final Fantasies are garbage compared to CT. I would compare it to some other JRPGs, but I don't want this masterpiece to share the same title "JRPG" and be compared to all the garbage that goes by that label.

I plan on playing it again in RGB on a real SNES once my Sony PVM CRT monitor arrives.

On a related note, I'm looking into modifying my SFC Star Ocean cart by substituting my own 4 MB EPROM with the English patched version burned to it :D

(The second 2 MB ROM content is unchanged by the English patch).

One of the few translated games you can't play on a flash cart due to the S-DD1 chip.

Easily one of the best 16-bit games ever, and definitely in the discussion for best JRPG of all time, as well.

What about Chrono Cross on PS1?

I still think that's one of the best games i've ever played. I liked it more than CT.

If we are going into PS1, then Xenogears takes all easily. Sorry Crono :(

Nothing will change your perspective on life and raise the hairs on your neck like Xenogears.

4, 5, 6 are what I consider the defining games in the Final Fantasy series. 6 is up there right next to CT, and 4 is just timeless.

7, 8, 9 are riced out shallow garbage, 10 was "ok".

4 - was mediocre/ok
5 - sucked
6 - my favorite
7 - good, but not spectacular
8 - sucked
9 - 2nd favorite
10 - Sucked
12 - Blah... gave up after a few hours
13 - Never tried after seeing reviews

That's my take

I liked 4 the most. Haven't played 5. I got bored of 6 before I could finish it.

They all have the same problem: Grinding. By the time I got to 6 I had exhausted my patience for that crap form of "gameplay." That is why they all fail.

Chrono Trigger does not have the problem which is one of the reasons why it approaches perfection. Probably also why its so short. No worthless filler.

Xenogears was great, but a bit too convoluted and overwrought. Most JRPGs are, by nature, to some degree, but Xenogears sort of took it to another level.

CT is probably my fav game of all time. wish they'd make an HD remake of it. never beat chrno cross, but the intro and end of world song are classic andi still listen to them every now and then for nostalgic purposes

17,000 years of story crammed onto two CDs on an under budget project will do that

Oops, just realized there is actually a thread more relevant to what I just posted.

With that being said... Chrono Trigger and Zelda:OOT are probably my favorite console games of all time. Followed closely by FF4 and FF6.

It's safe to say that Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time, and apart from WoW, I've played it the most. Pretty certain I've seen every ending, gotten all characters to ** level with their proper attributes maxed out (** or star-star) via a ton of tabs.

Oddly enough, I never got into Chrono Cross. What I really wanted to play was that Japanese only game featuring Magus on his quest to look for Schala. I believe it was called "Forgotten Dreamers"?

Radical Dreamers.

Chrono Trigger was great though I liked the storytelling and soundtrack in Chrono Cross a bit more.
