I've searched for a demo and came up empty. There's plenty of sources of a video trailer of the game around if anyone wants to see it in action. Maybe they'll release a demo soon?

Perhaps no demo ? It still is reasonably priced though.

The demo is on the Chronicles of Riddick DVD. I forget which one, as there are several different versions. The uber directors cut extended version has it.

EDIT: Come to think of it, it may have been a demo for the xbox.

Heh, I've still got to finish Far Cry, Doom3, and Half-Life 2 before I move on to another game. I'm such a gaming slacker. :p

share your computer's DVD-ROM across the network, and access that from your dad's computer.

possibly, your dad's dvd-rom has some read issues with certain discs.

I just picked up CoR yesterday and am psyched to play this puppy.

I also ordered the parts for my new rig a few days ago - A64 3400+ and a BFG 6800GT OC - which should help in playing this game. I don't think my current XP1800+ and 9600Pro are up to the task with some of these newer games. FarCry has been a struggle.

I can't stand Vin Diesel either but I heard that even if you don't like him or his movies this is still a killer game.

Can anyone comment on the hand-to-hand combat in the game? I've read that it's pretty intense.

I tried swapping the DVDROM too... his is the same one I have, and I know it works... I should also mention I have tried both the CD version, and the DVD version.

setup.exe error no matter what.

Hand to hand is pretty cool, the game is just engaging is all. You actually enjoy playing it and play it through. That to me is what makes a good game. Not to mention the graphics are really nice.

just FYI I have been on the phone with Vivendi games for 40 mins now and they have no clue what is wrong.. this is the only game that the computer is having a hard time with. He specifically asked me to try installing another game, I tried 2. no problem.

I watched my friend play it on his Xbox this weekend (first time seeing it). It aint a bad game, but it has nothing on Farcry or Halflife 2, not even close.

must suck for Xbox then, I think the game is easily as good as FC and HL2, but that's just me.

i just got it . . . . Curseit City has it for $29.95-$6 (20% off today and tomorrow, instore only w/coupon) = $23.95 plus tax . . . so it's bargain bin already. :D

Packaged (cheaply) like HL2 . . . . 5 sleeved CDs and a Quick Ref card :p

installed great (without a CD key) and no BS Internet Steam Crap to deal with :)

Runs OK on my 9800Xt/P4 @3.31 Ghz and 1 GB PC3500 (10x7, all details Hi, shadows, No Vert Synch or AA) and looks NICE!

i just started it so i can't say about the play . . . .
(but it's gotta be better then Doom iii)

i'll comment later (my Xmas vacation started today so it won't be 2 long . . . nap first. . . . )

EDIT: According to the box it's using the Starbreeze Engine . . . .

Starbreeze? Huh?

looks like the Doom iii engine . . . .

Basically, it was developed by a (new?) Swedish development studio who created their own engine. Starbreeze is probably the latest version of it - they originally came up with it for various console FPS games, AFAIR. Except their previous games were probably flops compared to Riddick, which seems to have won a lot of critical acclaim...

it sure looks nice . . . . very much like the Doom iii engine . . . . actually, the character models are better in Riddick

gameplay is solid (unlike Doom iii) . . . . this is a MATURE game and you get a lot of close up kills with your fists or a shiv or s shotgun and plenty of cursing . . . . decent AI (!)

kinda weird . . . . i start most games on 'easy' to get a feel for it . . .. there is no need for a 'walkthrough' - if you get stuck, your journal tells you what to do next . . . .

ok, been playing it for awhile . . . .

gameplay is very very good . . . . and playing as Vin Diesel you can kill him as many times as you like :D

he must do the voice acting . . . . not bad really . ... i just had to stop gaming and post here (when i entered The Pit) the most corny line i already knew from years ago as spoken by Vin Diesel (accompanied by a really nice visual cutscene):

[ok, technically it's a *Spoiler* so you may want to skip the next line]

It's not the fall that gets you . . .

. . . . it's that sudden stop at the bottom
:p

Anyway, based on a couple of hours with it . . . .

Are there ANY outdoor scenes?
. . . . it's darkness kinda reminds me of Doom iii (it is an escape from a prison) although you DO get a Flashlight at least part of the time with your weapon and game play is a MILLION times better - not boring like Diii.

Recommended,
(especially for less then $25 - today, hurry!) ;)
