Saw this movie yesterday. Happen to be an exceptional movie, but wasn't prepared for ending of movie. The majority of moviegoers actually clapped at the end. I was momentarily stunned for a moment before I did too.

A lot of adults for a Saturday matinee.

I recommend that you go and see this movie. The plot was excellent and the special effects were mind boggling. Better than Star Wars or Harry Potter?!!!!

Audience nowadays seem to clap at anything.

Narnia was mediocre at best. Wooden acting, and the story moved at a mind-boggingly slow pace.

If you haven't grown up with the books as a child, you're missing some very relevant stuff.

Overall, I thought the movie was very faithful to the book, with the glaring exception of the "Father Christmas" crap. The pacing was off as another poster said.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. I'm a big fan of the books. I would have been very upset if the movie didn't remain faithful to the book.

It was alright... if anyone watched the really old BBC (?) version of it, it was pretty much exactly like that with better graphics and a differently protrayed (I think) fight at the end.

Some "serious" shots had the audience laughing, but this is the college movie theater and we're all a bunch of cynical trendy-folk with nothing better to do. Great movie for the kids and anyone who grew up with the books/older movies.

Que? It's been awhile since I've read the books, but I seem to remember Father Christmas being in there. Was it just a different portrayal?

Comparison to Lotr?

Not even close, LOTR blows CON out of the water. Its laughable to to even compare the two movies, imo.

What about the books?

CON is highly allegorical. LOTR is just a great story.

So becuase it's allegorical it's a bad story? Besides, the rest of the series aren't really based upon the Bible, just the overall theme.

LOTR is an epos. I have NO idea about NArnia since i didnt even know those books exist, i dont know them. I just know that LOTR was 3 big books which i read 900+ times.

But the point is that Narnia (which i liked btw. DESPITES the lots of cliches and plot weaknesses ;) *could have* had potential to be an Epos too - eg. three evening filling movies from start to the end.

But it was NOT. It was ONE 'little' movie and it was good...a whole story in about 160 mins....and i was satisfied and entertained. (I was also satisfied with LOTR)...but then this comparison is really....dumb.

ANyway both are fantasy movies and (like others) i wont go off and complain about stupid cliches and unlogicial things in the plot.

MAYBE, one short-coming of the movie was that it WAS only one smaller movie.....eg. i was realizing that the (funny) moment when they got their 'gifts' from that older guy. i was LAUGHING because can it get any more stereotype ? Eg "just believe in the arrows and they will find their target"...."blow the horn and help will arrive".....etc..etc......how many 10000 times has even the average Fantasy lover heard/seen such phrases ?

Anyway i realized the problem of the movie the moment they got the gifts...KNOWING that *for sure* they will need those gifts (HA! what a coincedence) pretty soon....since this happened already pretty far in the movie.

So...basically you knew already "ok...now let's wait how long it takes 'til Peter needs his great Sword, she needs her magic healing potion and the other girl uses the horn"..and voila ;) about 25mins later it all fit nicely in the plot...how nice ;)

Because the movie was VERY compact...so...it all felt kind of rushed/maybe almost scripted. Nevertheless i liked it. ;)

This movie was not meant to be compared to LOTR. Both are fantasies, but that's about it. Chronicles of Narnia is for kids, while LOTR isn't.

I give the movie three stars out of four.

Amazing production values. It is very well made

Good acting

Good story and dialogue. I am not a big fan of CS Lewis and the movie follows the book closely.

Or perhaps because they were both filmed primarily in NZ that you throw them into the same pot? Lewis and Tolkein were collegues and close friends who shared a common theological focus but each believed living out and exploring their convictions quite differently.

Those who read C.S. Lewis' work and have more than a fleeting children's memory of the Chronicles of Narnia regard Adamson's LWW as being every bit as powerful and accurate to Lewis' legacy as Jackson's work was to Tolkein. There was no intent to make another LOTR and there was no riding of the others' coat tails in the making of LWW other than in utilizing the same special effects house that LOTR used.

It is only right that the films do not so closely parallel each other in style and content. It would be an insult to the authors had the films been truly comparable to each other. There is ample room for both stories and movies on the media shelf. Just because one person's perspective or another would have preferred more blood, less children's emotion, this or that is par for the course. Everyone has a certain expectation of what they would be entertained by. Those who understand the authors intent and the passion in how each lived out their lives however; don't compare the films to each other. They enjoy each for what they are.

exactly.

This film was intended for children moreso. Not to say that adults wouldnt enjoy it too. I thought the movie was interesting, because my last and vague memories of LWW were when I was very little having the book read to me as a kid.

I didnt pay the cost of my admission though, and if I had to I would have probably just waited for it to come out on dvd. :)

Again, this movie is one for kids primarily, or those who remember the book from when they were a kid.

this movie was comedy gold. the directing, cg direction, acting, and the script was so damn cheesy that I laughed on multiple occasions throughout the movie. everyone in the theatre was pretty disapointed, and some people laughed w/ me due to the extreme cheesiness.

it's a shame that they crapped on a good childrens book. CS Lewis is turning about in his grave.

It was nothing compared to LOTR. Why would you even say that?

It was pretty good for what it was.
