Chronic Ankle Sprainers and b'ballers or v'ballers..question about Malleoloc Ankle Brace experience?

I was watching a basketball game the other day and saw that a few players were wearing some new ankle braces I had not seen before. I did some research and I think they are the Malleoloc Ankle Brace. After some reading, it seems that these are the latest in ankle brace technology.

I'm a weekend warrior chronic ankle sprainer (2 or 3 times within the last 4 years) and have gone with low tops and the Active Ankle T2 ankle brace. This combination has done me well. However, the shoes that I wear with them are getting harder, if not impossible to find, and so I need something that will fit in some mid-tops. I've tried Kallasy Ankle Braces (mainly for tennis), but they are too bulky for the mid tops and don't provide the support lace up or the Active Ankle brace gives.

I was wonder if anybody haas had any experience with them. For the price they are (around $50 each), I'd like to get as much info on them as possible. Are they hard to get into mid tops?

No clue, but the last two times I've played basketball I've gotten injured three times. :| Got pushed down going for a rebound and landed on my left wrist, strained it, it was pretty much okay in about 5 days fortunately. Jammed my ring finger trying to grab a rebound. Then the other day I was going for a steal on a guy that was going by me (it wasn't my guy, I was just going to try and strip it as he went by) but he grabbed the ball as I went for the steal and I ended up just poking him REALLY hard in the thigh with my index finger. So now my right index finger is massively swollen. It's getting friggin annoying...if I didn't love the sport so much I would just quit...of course that won't happen though. :)

Damn...I could have used that in high school when I was playing football. I messed my knees and ankles up so bad I couldn't play basketball my final two years (severly sprained my left ankle one year then sprained both knees and an ankle the same week the next year - right knee and right ankle severely on the same play).

edit: I didn't wear braces prior to the injuries and the ones I were given were the little gel ones that went up the sides.

since when is jamming your finger an injury...? ;) *:pwuss:p* j/k

on topic... i'm a chronic ankle turning & spraining b-baller (try to play 1-2 hours a day)... weak left & right ankle, giving me bad knees too... but i've never seen those braces before... i've seen others that are strap's and stuff, but never actually tried them... right now, i'm using the kind that you put on over your sock and lace up like an internal supporting shoe/brace thing. works like a charm... kind of restricts movement tho, so i'm looking for either something new or playing without a brace again...

It's not too bad really, but it's still annoying. I finished the game I was playing with my busted up wrist and ring finger - both were on my non-shooting hand. However, my index finger is on my shooting hand and it's enormous so that took me out of the game. :(

C'mon now, stubbing your fingers hurts! I jammed my pinky finger trying to catch a football. I dislocated the ligament attaching the bones at the first joint, and flecked off a piece of bone in the process. Quite painful. :)

Lol, I used to spend 10 minutes or so before every game getting my ankles taped up (sprained both of them fairly severely my freshman year in hs). Never could find a brace that worked as good as tape. Then again, that was about 14 years ago, so the new ones may be a bit better than what I had access too ;).

As for the finger thing, I broke the first 3 fingers on my shooting hand trying to intercept a missile of a pass during a summer tournament one year. All 3 fingers are crooked now, which is exactly what I needed for my jump shot apparently. Shot much better from the field after coming back from that one :p.

Wish I hadn't had to give up playing basketball. Was pretty much ruined after my first knee surgery (cracked my patella and tore the top off of my tibia/fibia during a game my sophomore year), but didn't get the hint until after my 4th one (up to five now). Decided to stick to slightly less strenuous activities, such as golf.

The Malleoloc braces are fantastic...

I have had 12 casts on my ankles, and spent more than a year of my life on crutches for a variety of ankle injuries..three of them occurred on December 3rd in three consecutive years, so needless to say I avoid doing much that day.

The Malleoloc braces are easier to wear with mid-tops than full high-tops, but you get used to it either way..highly recommended!

I severly sprained my right ankle playing racquetball a couple of years ago. The long of the short of it is I jumped into the wall to hit the ball, the bottom of my right foot "stuck" to the wall and I landed ON my ankle (on impact my foot was pinned between the wall and the floor and my ankle made a 90 angle). Needless to say there was a nice "pop", an odd sensations of things stretching, and a flash of pain like I've never felt before.

Well, getting to the point. This is the brace I got from the Doc and I love it. The cris-crossing straps are awesome and, at least for me, it gives excellent support w/o constricting my range of motion too much.
