Chrome's spell check sucks.

I know it has nothing to do with chrome it's the dictionary they are using but it's ridiculous. It could also be the UK/Canadian dictionary I don't know. As someone who spells like a 5 year old I rely on spell check, though I'm getting much better than I used to be. The dictionary is missing a LOT of common words. I had to add the following:

hentai* (yes lol)
Colours
coloured
colours
accelerant
setup
ASUS*
faucets
faucet
infrared
washroom
watchable
kiddy
movies
skitish
plow
google*
diarrhea
caviar
washrooms
macbook*
macbooks*
movie
Anand*
underway
gameplay
mold
icecream

The * ones are the only ones that I should have had to add.

Are any of these misspelled?

Some of those don't show up as misspelled in Chrome for me... Like movie, for example. Actually, many of those show up correctly for me. Mold, faucet, caviar, plow, infrared... Are you sure you're using it correctly?

Incidentally, you did misspell skittish, ice cream is two words, kiddie is typically spelled with "ie" not "y", and you've used the British spelling of "color."

Uh, you fail at the fucking English language if you are surprised that you had to add some of those.

Ice cream is two words.
Macbook is a proper noun, doesn't belong in the dictoinary. Likewise with Macbooks.
Kiddy, (kiddie) likewise, not a word. Though, I have to wonder why you were searching 'kiddy'
Skitish is actually skittish.
Asus, likewise, proper noun.
Colour* - Chrome is set for English (USA) spelling, again, not surprising.
Hentai - foreign language.
Anand - Proper noun.

Go find your dunce cap.

I can't verify the rest because I don't have chrome, but those are just the ones I found on a cursory look.

As bad as your spelling is...how the fuck would you know if Chrome spelled a word incorrectly or not?

:p

hentai* (yes lol)
Colours colors :p
coloured colored :p
colours colors :p
accelerant looks correct
setup set up
ASUS* Company name, not surprised that it's not included, but MAY be because of the caps
faucets Looks right to me
faucet Looks right to me
infrared Looks right to me
washroom Looks right to me
watchable Looks right to me
kiddy Looks right to me
movies Looks right to me
skitish Looks right to me
plow Looks right to me
google* Try it with the first "g" capitalized
caviar Looks right to me
washrooms Looks right to me
macbook* Proper name...capital "M" should work
macbooks* Proper name...capital "M" should work
movie Looks right to me
Anand* Proper name...not a common one at that, but try capitalizing the first "A'
underway Compound word, but SHOULD be correct in that variation too
gameplay Compound word, but could be correct in that variation too
mold Looks right to me
icecream ice cream, or more properly, ice-cream

As I went through this list, the only ones that Chrome flagged as incorrect were Macbook (s), Anand, and gameplay.

Uh, your spelling skills REALLY need some work.

Skitish != skittish for example. Skitish is not a word.

Yeah...I missed that one. Otherwise, my spalleng skelz are bettern yurs...

(yet oddly enough, Chrome didn't catch it either) <shrug>

BTW, before you bitch about my spelling...make sure yours is correct:

Here I'm passing you the dunce cap, it's more your size :p My spelling sucks but your reading comprehension does more so. You didn't even read my post. The proper nouns have asterisks next to them and if you look waaayyyy down you will see the following The * ones are the only ones that I should have had to add. meaning those ones were NOT supposed to be in the dictionary.

Also if you had read my post you would have seen that I am using the UK dictionary. So of the ones you listed the only ones you are correct about are "Ice cream", Kiddy and skittish. :p And I even added a note at the end of my post that you also missed asking if I had misspelled any of these.

Again, let's see if you can read, if you carefully dissect what I was saying I'm fairly certain I said "You fail at English, if you were surprised that you had to add these." Again, this shouldn't be stunning to you. If you weren't surprised that they weren't in there, I don't know why you were bitching.

If you met a guy on the street named ljkandflkjndflkjanfdlknadjfa would you expect his name to be in the dictionary?

Furthermore, you should know that all the major programs use the American English (e.g. handicapped English), so likewise, it shouldn't surprise you there either.

Yes I could have written the OP better but your reading comprehension really is bad isn't it.

Anyone else having as much of a problem with this as Rb here? :D Yes I'll admit the way I worded it wasn't the best. But it's not rocket science to make out what I wrote.

So to make it extra clear I WAS NOT surprised I had to add those. That's why I put an asterisk next to those words. And as for the American English dictionary?

If you set it to the British dictionary, does it offer corrections? Like, if you type apartment, it changes it to flat? Or elevator becomes lift? Or motherfucker becomes bloody wanker? That would be a useful feature.

Lol no. It's just your basic spell checker. Here I've removed the custom dictionary and you can see what I was refering to. Now the others were right about skitish, kiddy and icecream those are my fault. LOL Like I said I suck at spelling. And of course it's not going to have the proper nouns, only and idiot would think that.

I find chrome to be significantly worse at figuring out what I really wanted to spell than google, but I haven't had an issue with it flagging correctly spelled words as incorrect.

Google is the best spell check engine in existence from my experience.

The real question is, why doesn't the spell checker work like google.com search auto correct? Without fail I can type in any sequence of letters vaguely like the correct spelling at google.com auto correct knows what I want perfectly. The same can not be said for their spell checker.

For example, the word
"definitely"
Lets say I spell it like
"defininitly" (sloppy I know, but it's a word I never can spell correctly)
Google.com tells me I probably meant, "definitely". Perfect, just what I meant to spell.

Now chrome's spell check gives the following options:
"definitively"
"definitions"
"definitive"
"defiantly"
None of which is what I meant.

So the question is, why can't google chrome's spell check be as awesome as google.com?

My guess is it would put too much stress on their servers to have Chrome spell checking everything that way.
