I got a Chromecast today and hooked it up. Does it only work with apps that support it??? I thought I could cast my browser to the TV and watch videos from there. This might be pretty worthless if all i can do is netflix (which I don't have streaming sub for), hulu+ (again, no sub), youtube or google video and music...

Our official thread for ChromeCast is here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2332706

Yes, currently it only supports Netflix, Youtube, Google Play Video/Music, and Google Chrome Tab Casting. And very recently, Hulu+.

Chrome tab casting worked somewhat well when I tested it with Plex/Web, although I ended up using mostly Netflix with my ChromeCast.

Did you install the Google Cast plug-in in Chrome?

I was actually using my Nook HD+ at the time and the extension is not supported on the tablet.

It does work on my laptop however, so it's not a total loss. I was primarily hoping to use it with my Nook HD+.

Casting from the Chrome browser seems to work well. The only annoyance is if you want full screen on the TV, then you have to run it full screen on the computer and so it prevents you from using the computer.

I was able to Cast crunchyroll.com to my Chromecast from Chrome on a PC and it worked fine.

Though it's a shame there are not any third party apps available except Netflix after several months. Apple TV meanwhile has recently been adding quite a few new channels. Come on Google, get with it. :)

Actually, you can drag the tab out, cast the tab, and then alt+tab and keep using your computer!
