Chromebook recommendation needed

rather quickly. Which Chromebook gives the most bang for the buck? Budget is around $300 but can be stretched to $500 max. I do not want something made too cheaply (toy-like, creaky, too bulky, etc.).

I did a very quick Google search and it seems like ASUS C302 is very well received among the critics. Acer has lower priced models but I have no idea how they differ. I am not keen on Samsung ones because they seem to be priced higher for no reason.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh and one question: Can you run Tor browser in Chrome OS?

Chromebook 13 Spin is my vote.. but im a sucker for acer price point / build quality. If i had unlimited $$ id prob pick sony


1 second of googling shows chrome OS and tor browser not working but lots of diff ways to access using privacy on top or diff ways.

You're paying for the much better build quality, better screen, and S-Pen on the Samsung Chrome Books vs. the $300 Chromebooks. In the $500 category my picks would be:

Samsung Chromebook Pro: Better Screen, Touch Screen, slower CPU, not quite as good build quality. Good if Android Apps will be your focus (because of touch support).
HP Chromebook 13 Pro: Not as good screen, no touch screen, faster CPU, longer battery life, solid build quality. Good if Web Consumption and Chrome Apps are going to be your primary use case.

If you want to have it all, Google is still barn burning their PixelBook at ~$750 this week. Could be for back-to-school or to pre-game for new Pixel announcements next month, either way, it's the lowest price yet on a PixelBook.

I have the Samsung Chromebook Pro and *hate* the keyboard; the spacing between keys in 1 direction is not normal and there's no tactile feedback to know where your fingers are. It's like typing on Chiclets. Also, the Pro's ability to do Android is basically useless -- not ready for primetime.
