Chromebook choice?

My old laptop is dying as we speak but I only have about $350~$400 for a new one. I'm thinking about getting a chromebook and installing Linux, because some of the higher-end ones now have 4GB of RAM and decent-ish processors. This will be a non-gaming laptop.

I read Anand's Chromebook guide here and was torn between the Toshiba Chromebook 2 and Acer Chromebook. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind 1600x900 on a laptop, but 1366x768? I'm poor, not a savage.

Jokes aside, the two I've come down to both have 1080p, but the Acer is TFT while Toshiba is IPS. The Toshiba has a Celeron N2840 dual-core while the Acer is powered by NVIDIA's Tegra K1. Not entirely sure, but I believe the Toshiba has a 64-bit OS while the NVIDIA processor caps it to 32 on the Acer. The Acer has 2 more hours of battery life, but the Toshiba is $50 less.

Other than that, I can't think of any significant differences. What would you suggest? What even is the new NVIDIA processor? Does a 64-bit OS hold any advantages over a 32-bit, really? Would the Celeron's basic built-in graphics maybe struggle with 1080p video? Would the Tegra K1's four cores offer any advantages?

$400 is Core i3 territory. Granted the screen will probably be 1366x768 but you'll have a lot more power at your disposal.

As for the Celerons graphics. It won't be ok for much gaming but it won't have an issue with 1080p playback.

I've seen both the screens in person. The Acer screen looks like trash in comparison. I'd go for the Toshiba.
