That new Samsung with the Note 3 pleather back looks nice

The 13" Samsung is probably the nicest overall (1080p), but the Intel models are easier for Linux use.

Not sure what to think of the Chromebook 2. Disappointed there is no IPS display, especially since these will probably be the most expensive Chromebooks (Pixel doesn't really count).

I'm hoping Best Buy will get these in their stores before our XP coupons expire on May 3rd.

I don't get why the fake leather look is popular... I'd rather get a glossy plastic back than fake leather... at least it's not pretending to be anything it's not.

I hate glossy plastic on phones and tablets because it collects fingerprints and smudges so easily and gets greasy feeling and slippery. The faux leather or other kinds of textured plastic help hide the fingerprints and doesn't get the greasy feeling and feels more secure to hold.

With laptops it really doesn't matter as much since I really won't be touching the top of the lid that much. Though it's nice to have your Samsung products match up. All the more reason I find it odd the Galaxy S5 is the odd man out without the faux leather.

The faux stitching though was probably unnecessary.

There's some strings attached to it. Working order, must boot, battery&charged need to be included, must have WinXP sticker on it, etc. Details on on the Slickdeals link I posted.
I have one that meets most of that criteria except for I long since installed Win 7 on it. (But it originally had XP and has the SN# on it) and another that totally meets all that and still has XP.

Now I just have to dig them out...

May have to look into this. Never been much into Chromebooks, but to score one for $99?

Ok, I get that. Honestly, if it weren't for the stitching, I might feel differently. The texture itself isn't bad, it just looks tacky. On the other hand, the silver Samsung Chromebook that sold at 250 looks better than most other Chromebooks (too bad it's stuck with an ARM processor)

The pleather feels much better and maintenance free. Glossy plastic is as cheap and greasey as it gets.

Do you think screen/keyboard protector would be worth anything or that a waste on such a cheap device? I would think resale value in two years would be about zero.

I'd like a light linux portable... but I don't know how practical it would be to get it since I already have a zenbook 13.3"... kindle fire hdx... desktop... etc... wtf

Yeah, if I could think of a specific use, I'd be all over this, but I have way too many pieces of tech already. If this was windows-compatible, I'd probably still have bought one.

i'm using a 720 right now and it's pretty flawless at what i need it to do. my only gripes aren't even worth mentioning(the 11" screen strains my eyes a bit when doing school work, and sometimes the 2gb isn't the best for having 10 tabs open in the browser.) the pros, outweigh the cons too much for me not to like this machine(expect the factory's 8hr claim on battery life..sometimes even more depending on screen brightness, the haswell cpu is very snappy and pairs well with this basic computer, the 16gb ssd is also quick with boot-up and apps, and 100gb of google drive cloud space is free for 2 years.)

Traded in my wife's super old laptop and got my father-in-law the Toshiba Chromebook. It's a really nice machine and for the price it's quite a steal. Also why is 2-finger scroll on chrome OS flawless like OSX but still a mess in Windows?

Also funny story as when I was in BB I called him to let him know about the coupon and the cheap chromebooks and was prepared to go into this long explanation on what a chromebook is. To my surprise the second I said chromebook he knew exactly what it was as apparently the high school he works for just purchased 4000 chromebooks for students and faculty. After hearing this I think MS really has something to be worried about.

Bought my 8yo daughter the C720 for Xmas. She does all her online homework on it, my older daughter uses it occasionally for school work, my wife uses it to surf the web while we're on the deck or at swim meets. We just tether it to one of our phones when on the road. Works great.

The best part- Not having to deal with Windows crap.

Ok guys... Just bought the 32GB SSD refurb c720 from amazon for $149. 16GB I was hesitant... but at 32GB I'm there! Now I have a bit more space to not worry about deleting stuff and no longer (for now) have to buy the 128GB mssd.
