So Chrome on opening a bookmark displays a bad page for a split second and then decides to load the page correctly? Started happening the past few months. Anyone else experiencing this behavior?

It does sound like a caching problem,

I am just not sure why Chrome wouldn't check for updates before the page loaded,
unless there was an issue with the particular website(s).

Some faced this issue after enabling https on their blogs.

Some say its due to redirection issue on the blog address.

Have you checked the SSL status? You might have bookmarked the http version, but that page might be in https currently.

Try to clear the cache too.
