Chrome pegging CPU on new Windows 10 system

I'm using a mini-ITX case, hoping for a somewhat silent system, but any time I open Chrome my fans all go on full blast. I've experimented with SpeedFan to slow things down but still no joy. It's particularly bad when watching YouTube. All drivers are at the latest versions.

I've seen a ton of hits on this issue in web searches but nothing really applies to me that I can see. I have Flash loaded, and don't have a stand alone sound card.

Any ideas, or is this MS's way of pushing people to use Edge?

Update: Tried Chrome Beta, no joy.

Facepalm.

So, uh . . . if you're going to use CoolerMaster JetFlo fans and want the to run silently . . . make sure you use the low-speed adapters.

That is all.

Sounds like there's something wrong with your Chrome install. I'm using Chrome on 4 different Win10 PC's, no CPU issues.

I had a persistent issue with Intel RST using 30% cpu at idle with Win 10, but it was not related to chrome. Doesnt sound like what is causing your problem, but you might check task manager and see if a process called IAStorDataSvc or something similar is using a lot of cpu resources at idle. Did not have the problem in Win 7, just Win 10. (Thanks MS).

Download gpu z and check both gpu load and gpu frequency when the fans run at high rpm!

What fans are we talking about in particular? Is it the cpu fan, the gpu fan(s) or the case fans?

You have to properly identify the one(fan) that is going full blast.

mitx builds are by far the worse when it comes to silent pcs. I'm on all low rpm fans full desktop tower + made for OC big beefy cpu heatsync on a non k i7 4770 because I'm obsessed with silence.

The case fans I'm using aren't silent-rated unless you use the proper adapters, which I neglected at first. It's nearly silent now. 🙂
