I haven't really gotten a chance to screw around with Chrome, but from what I've seen it's A LOT faster than FIrefox, at least under OSX. I don't know what it's like under Windows though so YMMV.

I found a fix for this using adthwart! Go to the options page and check that box off.

I found what you're talking about. Experimental or whatever. It works somewhat.

Also, Chrome seems slower on ATOT than Firefox for me... >.> Just saying---.....

how good is Chrome as far as javascript and such? Does it let you block malicious stuff like popups, window resizing and all that crap? The only reason i use firefox is for noscript, but I really do like Chrome. I find firefox has turned into bloatware, sadly. I've always been a fan of it but Chrome just seems more light weight last time I tried it.

No clue, but it did actually have a pop up come up on a porn site I viewed. D: :hmm: :\ I just clicked on the blank part of the page and BAM a pop up came up. Then I clicked again and it didnt happen again, so Mmmm.. >_> It doesn't block them all apparently...

Firefox is actually tricked by that too unless you change something in about:config but then it also blocks any link that opens in a new tab (have to use middle click). Seems it's a "new" trick spammers are using now to detect clicking anywhere on the page.

You'd think somebody could code a browser that blocks every single popup no matter how it is initiated but still allow user initiated ones. (ex: a direct link)

If it's what I'm thinking it is, that isn't a pop up. It's actually a pop under and it is a bitch to block. Iirc it's live jasmin or something like that. Though you could be talking about something else.

I don't understand the memory usage argument at all. My piece of shit laptop has 2gb of memory and my desktop has 4gb. I never max either of them out, so any memory that isn't being used is being wasted.

However, Firefox is definitely slow and bloated. It takes all bloody day to launch and feels sluggish compared to Chrome.
Firefox opens nearly instantly on my work PC (2.4GHz P4, 512mb, 5400rpm 40gb drive, xp pro) and instantly on my home gaming pc. Both have the same extensions installed, except for stumbleupon.

The problem is a huge amount of websites (for some unknown reason) use javascripts in their links instead of target=.

This means blocking all javascript popups would break a large amount of legitimate content.

I mean adding a click event to a paragraph of page is no different then adding a click event to a anchor tag.

You could block click events on everything but anchor tags/buttons/etc, but that would break lot of 'applicaiton' style javascript frameworks out there (how to drag and drop list items or pictures?). However, I don't see why you couldn't block adding click events to the body tag. there is no good reason to have one there that I can think of.

Yeah, I like it better than not having it checked.

Yeah it's bad I've noticed some webmasters like to totally overuse javascript. I don't even get why, as it only overcomplicating the code.

want to add that when using streaming media like justin.tv, IE has much lower CPU utilization than Chrome or Firefox for me

Using Chrome right now. I like firefox but it is just slow.
For ad blocking I highly recommend ad muncher. I have never found anything that has gotten past it. Doesn't require you to use a specific browser or install plugins. Just install it one time and it works for any browser you use.

LOL! What a terribly weak argument! How much RAM do you have? 256MB?? Cry me a river, just because it uses memory doesn't mean it's slow or bloated. Even budget machines are coming with 2+GB installed now.
Just because FF may use more memory doesn't make it slower. 150 is nothing. If it was using 500+ then it might be a prob, but not 150.

2GB.

No one is crying. You mistake it for 'making sense' because it doesn't agree with your retarded ranting and apologist attitude for poorly coded software.

I didnt say its slow or bloated because it 'uses memory' you ignoramus. I said its slow and bloated because it uses TOO MUCH memory. I have Opera/Chrome opening the same tabs, using less than half the RAM.

You fail at understanding what 'bloated' means. This isnt photoshop, get a clue.

Wow, so much fail. Why would anyone with 2GB possibly care if it uses twice as much when the used amount is still so insignificant and the browser is still fast (and has far more useful features and add ons)?? Is going from 75MB to 150MB really putting that much of a strain on your PC? Give me a break.

You're the one who doesn't understand the terminology correctly. It would be bloated if it uses too much resources that it slows it down. It doesn't slow anything down. It's not bloated just because it uses more than other browsers.

Do you leave your task manager open all day just so you can see how much memory your programs are using? If Firefox using 150MB is as fast (and again, more fully featured) as Chrome using 75MB, what fucking difference does it make? None!
Chrome may win in some benchmarks but the end user experience is no better.

You sound like youre 12. Im not going to sit and keep explaining why its a sign of bloat when one browser uses twice the memory as another with the same sites open. Anyone with half a mind would realize its not about the memory, its about what it signifies. I like FireFox. I used it 90% of the time. I, however, am not going to be a idiotic fanboi like you and give excuses to things that are starting to become issues. Thats not how Firefox became popular.

Have fun with your trolling.

Been using Chrome for the past couple of months or so. When the newest update for FF came out it screwed everything up. Very buggy and instable.
