Christopher Hitchens 1949–2011

He was a fantastic writer, extremely intelligent, witty. His views were at times uncomfortably far right for me, on Iraq for example, (ironic given he started out on the extreme left). His life was somewhat short, but he burned bright.

RIP.

The world, and the US in particular, is in desperate need of more people like Hitchens. Whether you agreed with him or not, he was always intelligently thought provoking, the very antithesis of our current political and media machines.

He was a bit of a troll with outrageously titled books that Im sure he is trying to explain right about now. :'(

He was fearless and unflinching in the expression of all his beliefs, most of them being uncompromising truths. He was asked when dying if he would ever repent on his death bed or "find god". He was rightly insulted by the very idea. No he is not explaining anything right now. He's feeding the worms and NOTHING more just like all the rest of us will be.

Amazing how if an Athiest is fearless and unflinching in his beliefs people hail him as intelligent and a hero but anytime a religious person is fearless and unflinching in their belief they are called inbred and ignorant. Purest example of the modern day world and it's biased towards religious persecution.

The ONLY thing that is sad about this whole thing is that based on this mans on words on his own death bad there is now another soul doomed to suffer eternally.

These are my beliefs they don't have to be yours. I won't force them on anyone but at the same time I won't be pushed into a corner and not speak my mind on my beliefs whenever and wherever I choose.

Yes the body dies, but the soul lives on.

Amen. ()🙂

No, just an example of the stupidity of religious people.

Reason in the light of insanity does not reverse into insanity becoming reasoned and reason somehow becoming unreasoned.

yeah.

just don't vote on your beliefs and tell me that your president must have the same beliefs as you, and get all bitchy that your holidays mesh with other holidays, and you suddenly think your holidays don't get as fair a shake as other holidays....etc.

not saying this is you, just saying that those who don't give a piss about what you believe only tend to get pissy when others of your belief start expressing their phantom oppression as some type of "anti-bias" for your religion.

non-christians are an extreme minority in this country. don't ever--for a fucking second--think that your religion is ever being oppressed in this country.

the thought is comical. simply because those who have no religion have become more vocal in the last 20 years, doesn't mean you are suddenly being oppressed.

fuck, who knows...maybe it gives others the chance to think for once....look around them, explore the world, other gods, all that shit.

Insane or not real will always be real. The truth will always be the truth. Just because your mind cannot grasp the idea of an ever lasting God does not make it insane or untrue. Mr Hitchens is finding this out right now probably. I can't say that for sure as I don't know his heart and I can't judge. I'm just guessing based off of his own words.

Can I turn your words around on you so you can see the tone of your message (which is typical for you - elitist, arrogant, hateful, w/a fetish for ponys)?

No, just an example of the stupidity of people who love 'My Little Pony'.

How you like them apples? :colbert:

That's just plain ignorance right there and I know you're smarter then that. It was clear from the second post in this thread that anyone who had a belief in God was an insane zealot and ignorant. Now of course that is NOT physical persecution but it is psychological. People who don't believe are free to auto call out believers as uneducated morons. For a believer to say the same would simply be turned around on them.

So sorry kind sir but by this very thread it's obvious you people who don't give a piss about our beliefs will get pissy BEFORE any of us even start to type in the thread.

I'm sort of embarrassed to say that I just learned of this man today. However, after reading some of his articles and his brief biography, I feel justified to say that the world lost a great human being,

I was raised a christian and my mother is an ordained minister (I know this means dick to the Catholics out there because, well, all of them are asshole fuckers :awe🙂, but you simply have no idea where I come from.

It's not the belief I attack, it's the expression of such, in how you choose to live your life.

I certainly do not believe that religion stigmatizes any one individual as ignorant or uneducated, worthless or trite. Far from it. I've known plenty of atheist idiots out there to equal the brilliant, well-educated theologians that could trounce you in an honest debate.

not at all what I'm saying. It's simply how one chooses to live their life and present themselves.

Accept that the world is not Christian world, cease to judge people based on one singular, and rather asinine view of the afterlife, and just live yoru own fucking life.

it's rather simple.
