Christmas Upgrade

while I am home for the holidays I am going to upgrade from my AMD X2 4200/4GB XMS DDR 400/460GB of HDD space/X1600XT to a Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe/2GB XMS2 DDR2 800/620 of HDD Space/ and Crossfire with dual X1600XT's will I be satisfied with my choice in upgrades?

the dual x1600's might not be the best investment, even though you already have one of them. I would either stick with your current single x1600 and upgrade to a DX10 card when the time comes, or spend $200 on a x1950pro now and save the upgrading for even later.

other than that, it seems like a good idea, although I don't know how much of a performance boost you will see in day to day tasks, as your current system is already quite powerful. go for that video card upgrade and you will definitely see a difference in games, however.

yeah, I would like to go to an x1800 or higher, it just did not fit in the budget at the moment that was my problem, I actually had a really good video card before X800XT but when I swithced motherboards I had to get a PCI-e card and at the time it was affordable, I am a student in Germany, so computer parts are a little more expensive here, cause otherwise i order from Newegg,

For gaming your CPU is still good enough, spend the money on a 1950XT or better still an nvidia 8800 card. Look at the benchmarks in the Video tab.

For gaming you also don't get much use from 4 GB, so sell 2 GB now and get the 8800GTX 🙂

well my problem is, is I have found no socket 939 Mobos that are crossfire compatible that have decent reviews, I keep seeing reviews about the motherboard coming DOA and what not

nope, I actually not owed an nvida graphics card in 3 years, but I am open to new ideas, I still would like to switch to the Core 2 Duo they seem to out preform my X2

Nothing wrong with moving to core 2 if you can afford it _and_ the 8800GTX, but if you can only afford one of the 2 right now then the video card will make much more of a difference in games.

Umfanatic what do you do mainly with your computer?
If it's gaming theres no need for you to upgrade any thing but the video card.

Grab your self a 8800gts for 450.00$ and you performance will go up 4x or more.
or
Grab yourself a cheaper x1950xt for 250.00$ wich will keep you good for a good year.

Then grab yourself a real upgrade with a Intel quad core and the newest card later on (2 years?)
Right now your cpu and memory will push any game made just fine. You just need a video card!

2x----- x1600xt's suck!

well I, do java and programing for homework, but yeah I have gotten into games more, and I saw that the conroe out preformed my X2
