Hi,

I'm looking to get a 5-6ft fake Christmas tree, either prelit or with lights separately. I would prefer to get some longer lasting lights, LEDs if they make good ones.

I've had a few in the past, all from local stores and with incandescent lights. I've also had some experience with LED strips, particularly the bendable ones, and I've been disappointed. Maybe it was low quality or just new to market, but unlike incandescent bulbs where if one went out the rest remained lit, a whole chunk of the LED strip would go out - permanently - if bent too much.

Any suggestions on trees/lights and where to get something decent? Prefer white lights. Style of tree doesn't matter too much.

TIA

i'm also looking for a decent quality fake tree. dunno if i'm ready to spend like a grand on one though lol!

You can find these trees really cheap on eBay through liquidators. They're usually returns yet in great condition. My tree originally retailed $850, but bought it a week before Christmas 2010 for $125 shipped.

Wow didn't think they went up that much in price. Might have to stick to a cheap one this year, wasn't budgeting for that much.

Are those you listed for $400-800 really that much better than the ones at your local stores?

I mean they look nicer, but I'm curious about the huge price difference. Is it the LEDs?

All of the pre-lit LED versions I have seen have a noticeable flicker.
I'm not sure if they are using AC LEDs with half wave rectifiers or what...
But it is very noticeable to me.

Make sure you see it in person before buying.

Could always wait till after Christmas. 4 years ago, I bought a 9 foot tree for $45 that sold for over $500 before christmas. It's easy to assemble and has lights and crap in it already too.

BTW I know this doesn't really help with your question but it is an alternative if you don't end up getting anything 🙂

Yeah.....the day after Xmas, get up early and hit Home Depot or Lowes....

I bought a GE Prelit tree from Sears years ago....maybe 2007 for $199. I've had one strand of lights go black on the tree since I bought it. They wouldn't sell me a replacement strand because they stopped 'supporting it' and didn't have strands that would fit it....so they claimed.

I ended up stringing a small set of lights on that set of branches...so there are more lights in the middle of the tree, but it's worked the last 2 seasons like that.

These are great...break into 3 sections and the branches fold up and look very real because they have pvc molded branch tips... The inside branches are made of cheaper material, but that makes the tree look more 'full'. You can put it up and take it down in a few minutes.
