We have been planning ( procrastinating ) a remodel of our modest master bathroom for years now.
Friday I and a crew of friends, carpenters, plumbers, are going to put a big dent in it right after my wife heads off to work. The plumber and I got a head start on it today and tomorrow, roughing in and moving plumbing, removing insulation, etc. This is all out of sight in the crawl space.
Her best friend is in on it, and will "need" a ride that day after work. It is my birthday as well, and she will play that as a reason to come pick me up and take us to dinner.
Friends and family and the crew will be waiting in the living room. She gets to the new bathroom door on the way in the back door of the house before the living/family room.
We will be removing the subfloor, cutting down the joists, adding extra joists, dropping the shower pan area, building a barrier free walk in shower, installing in-floor heat, installing a new awning window over/adjacent to the shower, re-plumbing that end of the house, new cabinets, sheetrock, tile. I'll be happy to get the subfloor back in and the toilet temped back in that day, after all that demolition.

LMFAO @ the tags.

Make sure you show pics of the after, sounds like it'll be a grand throne room.

Pics are down the road a ways yet :) IF I take any on Friday it will be bare studs and new subfloor, so no point in that.
The plumber and I dug up and brought in the line from the septic tank a different way, much more direct. We got it all restored in the landscaping so she would not notice. he has started plumbing in the crawlspace, taken down insulation in preparation, and we pulled a few measurements. I have materials hidden behind the garage. Today I'll get the subfloor, dimensional lumber, new door, pocket kit, shower pan kit, floor heat, self leveling concrete. I think the shower and tiling will be easy. The tough part is lighting and the cabinetry; that will just take time to come up with a design.

A complete bathroom reno in 16 hours? That would be mighty impressive if you guys pulled it off. Definitely need pics, maybe one of the before even.

won't be complete by any means. The self leveling concrete needs to sit a few days anyway.

OK, she is out the door. Today is my birthday, which I am using to good effect. She really has no clue what is about to happen. She gave me a compact Makita 18V drill this morning, which I will use today on the makeover :D

I have lumber hidden behind my truck, lumber and plywood in the bed, and plumbing in the shop and behind it. Don is coming, Mike, Her uncle, the plumber, two neighbors.
And here we go!

You can't do this in one day. You realize tile adhesive has to dry for a day or 2 before you grout/walk on it etc right?

I got the call that they were inbound, maybe 25 minutes out. We scrambled and got all the cars moved, debris cleaned up, tools moved etc.
She came in, I turned on the lights. It was priceless. She never really swears, but her reaction was "What THE FVCK!!!"
Then she became aware of the house full of people down the hall laughing their asses off!

I PMd skyking earlier this weekend - thanks to his thread, my wife gutted our bathroom. New floor, new wainscoting on the walls, new vanity, new sink, @#$(*& new toilet (what a pita that was), etc. Only the tub and ceiling are original, and the ceiling will be replaced soon.

Toilet - I had an older style toilet, where the tube on the bottom of the toilet extends 3" into the sewer line (from back in the days when it was cast iron.) I didn't quite realize this. Flange was all rotted (metal), so I replaced the plumbing with new PVC & new flange. I used the existing hole (of course, right? Damn it.) I never even thought about it - the rough in distance for the old toilet from the wall is 10". These days, standard is generally 12". New toilet #1 isn't going to fit. Struck out at all of the retailers, but success at a plumbing supplier that only sells to licensed contractors. Fortunately, a close relative has an account there.

Minor upate:

Plumbing rough-in is complete. Framing done, subfloor done, window is roughed in.

Floor heat is installed, covered with self leveling concrete, and currently under test. Floor is a toasty 82 degrees. Shower is built and tiling of the shower and floor begins tomorrow.
