Christmas Light annoyance...

I swear, all Christmas lights are manufactured by one friggin factory in China somewhere, and just put in different boxes for different stores/brands. WHY DO ALL MULTI-COLOR CHRISTMAS LIGHT STRINGS NOW CONTAIN PINK LIGHTS?!?!?!?!!??!?!? BLAAAAAARGH! I HATE PINK CHRISTMAS LIGHTS. PINK IS NOT AN OFFICIAL COLOR FOR CHRISTMAS LIGHT STRINGS.

I am so annoyed. Up til last year, I bought all my Christmas lights at Kmart: White-Westinghouse 100ct. strings, made exclusively for Kmart. I had over 20 strings of clear, and 11 strings of multi-colored. I went with those lights because their multi-color strings had 4 colors: yellow, red, green and blue....NO PINK. Well, this year, I go to Kmart, and guess what? yep, no more White-Westinghouse lights. They've got GE, which contains pink, they've got "Trim-A-Home", which again contains pink, and they've now got Martha Stewart lights, which I don't know whether they're got pink or not, I simply refused to look at them at all. (no self-respecting man would own Martha Stewart lights).

So, I go look at CVS, Wal-Mart, Lowes, etc, etc, and every multi-color set that I've looked at so far contains PINK LIGHTS. BLARGH! Well, Lowes did have a set that doesn't contain pink, but it was a set that does like 8 different 'effects', so it's like $9 for a 100-light set... costs 2-3 times more than a standard 'non-effect' 100-light set.

So, at this point, my options are:
1) give in, throw out my old strings, and buy new strings containing pink lights
2) buy the 'effects' strings at Lowes and pay $$$
3) buy multi-color sets containing pink bulbs, and then also buy strings that are all one color, buying red, green, blue, and yellow sets. Then pull all the pink bulbs out of the multi-color set, and replace them with bulbs from the solid-color sets. (this is a royal pain in the butt just thinking about doing this.)

So, what do you think? Do you like pink Christmas lights? Hate'em? Couldn't care less? Think i'm just anal?

;) Sorry, but I just don't want pink lights in my Christmas lights. They look cheesy. The only official Christmas light colors that are allowed in multi-color light sets should be: red, green, blue, yellow (possibly orange would be allowed too).

I'm highly amused that "hudster is anal" is winning the poll so far...I knew it would. I just can't believe no one cares about their Christmas lights as deeply as I do. ;)

pink lights suck. And I have a blue strand where all of the blues aren't the same. Some are really nice, kind of dark blue, and others are this ugly greenish blue. :frown:

This takes a very, very long time. I'm not sure what possessed me to do this one year, but I had 4 100ct strings - 2 strings all red, and 2 strings all green. I spent the afternoon swapping every other light on each string with the other color, so in the end, I had 4 strings with alternating red/green color. Certainly looked nice. :)

Yeah, some actually have this really ugly pink in addition to the red...I usually enjoy multicolored, but not the ones with this awful BRIGHT pink!

pick = suck. but I am not going to change them out. Way to lazy to do that. A few years ago, I bought a bunch of sets, and took out all the lights so I could make strings a certain color to highlight bushes and such. I will never do that again :)

I did however buy 160 odd strings this year. I wonder what that would do to my electric bill? I would need the emergancy nclear backup like Chase :)

I completely agree.

I've been anti-pink lights for years. The last hold out was GE. And just this year guess what I found on a GE set of multi-color minilights? Pink lights. :::sigh:::

The pink lights were added to make the string appear brighter. The dark red alone with amber, blue and green does not look as "bright" as a string with pink, red, blue, green and amber.

Oh, and here's another pile of crap, they are starting to replace amber lights with bright yellow. It's starting to look like a fscking clown carnival instead of Christmas lights.

I found some specialty frosted mini-lights at Hobby Lobby that have only Red, Green and White lights. I might just switch to those.

Yes, most multi-color mini-light strings now have red, pink, green, blue and amber (or bright yellow).

Pink sucks the big one! We got some nice red once for our cypress tree in the front lawn. Man, what REALLY piss me off is when you open the box and test the light, everything works ok, but then when you put the light outside (being extra careful not to bang them on anything) and plug it in, SOME LIGHT ARE BURNED OUT!!! CHEAP FRAGILE POS BULBS! YOU RUINED MY SUNDAY!!!!

phew.... I think I?m done.... nope

IT WAS FREAKEN COLD OUT SIDE AND WINDY/SNOWY!!! :|:|:|

Ok I'm done.

I got one of those testers so I don?t have to take out every friggan one to check if it?s working.

When I was growing up we regularly went to Disneyland. All year round they lit their trees up with white lights. I guess that's why white lights just don't look like "christmas" to me.

Also, I collect blown glass ornaments (think Radko, Shiny Brite and German or Polish blown glass), and they just don't look right on a tree with white lights.

I understand, I guess i have have some traumatizing experiences with the multicolored ones...I have seen some monstrosities in neighborhoods with horrid multicolored lights. You know...different sizes, colors, real tacky looking. You just can go wrong with white, but this year i am giving up the white to go for a more, "home-y" look with multicolored ones!

well, i'm happy to see that most ppl who took the poll either agreee with me that pink lights suck or else they think I'm anal. I'd have to agree with both. ;)
