I used to work in the hotel industry and worked from Wednesday to Sunday, no major holiday off, ever. It was part of the job.

Oh, so you guys are still just ordering water all around then? j/k - but you knew that. :sneaky:

Sir, just to let you know because I am a member of very high class of aristocracy, I would order water with a slide of lime to show how wealthy and high class that I am. Only peasants drink plain water.

:D <tongue in cheek>

christmas is a relgious holiday (which many non-religious people celebrate too which doesn't make sense to me, but that is for another thread) for christians. there are a lot of non-christian religious people who don't celebrate it and it's just another day, majority being jewish people.

thanksgiving is a national holiday that doesn't have to do with religion, yet has to do with our nation as a whole.
Even looking to the pagan winter holiday, I don't celebrate the winter solstice much either. I'm not really at risk of starvation like my ancestors would have been, and it's still damn cold outside. Woo.

Or New Year's Day. Yay, an arbitrary unit of measuring time has increased by a whole integer.
But I get paid time off for it, so....ok then. Works for me.

yea but the thanksgiving tradition is spending time with the family at home eating turkey and mashed potatoes and stuffing.

many people go out and do things together on xmas as well.

i mean i see your point, but thanksgiving is more of a "stay at home and eat with family" holiday than xmas is. movies have always been pretty big on xmas.

I disagree. Christmas is a time where the kids and adults all get together and drink some nog, play with their presents, watch football or whatever, but stay at home and don't go to the theater. Movies are big on Christmas, but only the ones on TV or that you have rented from redbox.

So, got an email that Denny's is open Christmas Day, and I know IHOP is also open, as well as the movie theaters and every convenience store and gas station in this country. So, where is the outrage that so many people will be working on Christmas?

Is Costco going to release a press statement that their employees deserve the day off?

Because when you apply for work at these businesses, you KNOW going in that they will be open on Christmas Day. They won't be coming in three years from now and saying "Hey, we're gonna be open on Xmas this year."
