Christmas Came Early

holy fvck d000d!! That looks frickin' sweet! Nice impulse buy!! A lot of my crap is like that too 🙂 (well, impulse... not quite as slick as that though).

What is your max. resoluton it will do?

Edit: That purple chair has to go though...

That is huge. I'm in my living room looking up at my 37" Sony plasma thinking, "damn... that's a big monitor".

There is no way I would use a TV, as a monitor. Much too low of a res...

That being said, hope you are happy and enjoy it.

Yeah. 1920 x 1080 is for kids.

Real men use, er..., oh wait, there isn't anything higher that doesn't require a proprietary solution.

P.S. if anyone else has enough spare cash to go buying these things on impulse, please can you send one to me. PM me for my address.

Beat me too it. 🙂

I was talking about for that size. To me, thats too small of a res, for the size it is. Apple's is 2560 x 1600, and its "just" 30". No offense intended for the OP, I said I hope he is happy with it, and enjoys it.

Can the OP please comment on the weight and "portability" of the unit?

I'd seriously consider upgrading to this if I can take it with me to LANs =]

Physical Dimensions 36.6" x 28.5" x 8.4" (with Base)
56 lbs (with Base)
36.6" x 23.0" x 4.5" (w/o Base)
44 lbs (w/o Base)

I have seen the specs, but it is kinda hard to judge portability just from numbers.

I am mainly interested in how the flat shape of the unit affect portability. How hard would it be to carry this thing to, say, my car, without scratching the screen?

Awesome screen - nice monitor! 1920X1080 would be good enough for me on a 37" screen; considering you can't really sit as close as a 'traditional' monitor, it's all good 🙂 .

Ok I have it sort of set up now. I have to sit about 4 feet from it to read small text. As to the portability, it's definitely not lan party material, sorry. I got an open box one at BB for 1500$.

More pics in a minute.

The only game I play anymore is UT2004 and a bit of civ 4. I'm gonna fire up farcry though and give it a look. The 9800XT handles UT2004 at 1920x1080 high detail pretty well actually. I'm gonna have to upgrade soon anyway though, too bad those connect3d gto's aren't unlocking anymore...

Sorry about the mess in my room, cables and clothing everywhere I know 🙂.

EDIT: the couch is 4 feet from the tv, so my head is probably 5 to 5.5 feet away and text looks about is big as it did on the 19inch which I usually viewed from 2 to 3 feet.

I have the 32" westinghouse and it's an amazing monitor.

These were taken with my crappy camera so they don't do it justice.

All games at 1360x768 :Q

I can only imagine that 1080P would look amazing as well.

Even at 13x7 the 32" rivals my 2405 in quality. For those that say it's too big, well seeing is believing, and I see and I believe.

Yeah, I went to check it out at BB and it is quite a beast. Even though it is about the weight of a 21" CRT it looks like it will be a total PITA to carry this thing without help.

Thinking about getting the 27" model instead...

Actually, if you follow the discount threads on the Westy 37" LCD they have a lot of deals on them. A couple of weeks ago BB had the 32" for $810 w/ no interest financing until 2008, I almost got it. Resolution depends on how far away you sit from the display as well, I don't know the precise math. The main reason I don't like an HDTV as primary display is running programs like Word, IE, and similar. I think it's best left for DVD and some gaming (games that can accept progressive resolutions).
