Just wanted to add the graph from the pew survey. I'm very curious as to what the responses will be to your post.

This is a good thing. My personal experience reflects this as well. Especially true of the younger generations. I've lived and worked in both red and blue states.

Good to see reason taking hold across the nation. If we continue to see people abandon their beliefs at this rate we'll be a majority non-believer nation in 20 years.

Maybe you should consider that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the US and world and consider the implications. In the near future (2050) it's projected that 1/3 of the world will be Islamic. http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/02/living/pew-study-religion/

Thats what will happen when the right wing tries to claim Christianity for itself, as has been happening for the past 3 or 4 decades. It turns others off of religion altogether as being hateful, bigoted, selfish, or indifferent towards those different from them in the community. The cognitive dissonance required to hold right-wing and traditional Christian beliefs is astounding. Growing up as a conservative, I saw this day in and day out here in the "bible belt". The older I get, the more I realize that being a "Christian Conservative" is a contradiction in terms. So, I ditched my conservatism. Many of my friends and colleagues have either doubled down on conservatism, or left the faith altogether believing that there was no other way to be Christian.

Soon the left will direct their hate towards Islam, but they aren't done with Christians yet.

We're still midway in our WarOnChristianity™.

Last December, I said "Happy Holidays" to someone who specifically said "Merry Christmas" to me.

It's just how us leftists direct our hate in our WarOnChristianity™.

I blame Contemporary Christian music. Plus Amy Grant got old.

I think all Christians should die a horrible, fiery death. And I feel pretty damn good about myself too! I'm awesome.

There's going to be some big surprises in store for people, I am very sad to say.

Nothing draws people to religion like fear and uncertainty and the US has that in spades.
People like the OP prove that you don't need religion to be a whack job

Well its the fanatics that spoiled it for the rest of us, rest of them, whatever.
Clubbing people over the head with their religious rants and acting like they are the "owners" of religion itself, thus define what religion is or should be, followed by shoving that view down peoples throat.
Its no wonder people are turning against religion.
But I think people are more so turning against "organized religion" as it were.
The fundies have to stop shoving their hell fire and brim stone crap down everyones throat.
And its too bad politics fears these people and how they vote, thus forever sucking up to the religious rants concerning social issues and government.
They want so bad to mix politics with religion, and better than that, allow religion to rule politics.
Isn't that how it works with Middle Eastern countries?
And how terrorist groups like ISIS and al Qaeda came to be?

I think religion belongs in the church, and out of politics.
Religion turns fanatics into terrorist, then murders, radicals, extremist, and doesn't that describe the majority of current republican presidential hopefuls?
If one of these religious fanatics running for president actually became president, how long would it be until they encourage and justify the bombing of gay bars, abortion clinics, and Islamic Mosques?
In other words, everything outside their boundary of right and wrong.
