Christian school pwns two teenagers

Rogue

Banned
My newly adopted daughter attends pre-school at the Christian school here in town. The school is pre-school all the way up through 12th grade. Today we got a notice that two of the teenage students "stepped outside the boundaries of acceptable behavior resulting in a pregnancy." Needless to say, my wife and I were pretty shocked that such a thing would go to all of the parents who have children attending the school.

The two students in question were suspended after confessing their "sins", seeking forgiveness from Jesus Christ and applogizing to the administration, their peers and the shool board. They have further been banned from all extracurricular activities as well.

I'm torn on this matter for two reasons. First off, I can't believe that this communique would happen without parental consent, so if that's true, it's an interesting way to ensure that other students take note. My second issue is that I am an atheist through and through, but allow my daughter to attend this school because my wife is Catholic and I think that religion plays a role in morality in society and that children can benefit from such teachings. To me this constitutes a public, verbal stoning of these "sinners" and I just can't seem to rationalize the reasoning for such a broadcast. They are also encouraging all parents to discuss this matter with their children related to a few bible verses. I don't feel a 5-year old will comprehend or understand but the wife wants to talk anyway with the kid.

Regardless, I feel bad for these two teens having been exposed in such a way. What say you ATOT?

Well, that was a bit harsh, but they did something wrong, and it was a Catholic school. They really don't want that in there. They were being made an example, I guess.

I went to a religious school up until 5th grade. They pulled crap like this all the time. Your wife and you need to have a talk about this. Do you want to raise your daughter based on reason, logic, secularism. Or should religion, sin, and church teachings shape her view of morality?

Public humiliation is not needed, but the kids didn't follow the code of ethics set by the school, if they don't like it, they shouldn't go there.

🙂 That is precisely the line of thought that made me an agnostic, and convinced me to at least try to raise my kids with logic and reason as opposed to simple morality.

I think the two dumbasses involved deserve the exposure regardless of the rationale behind it. They were incredibly irrational and showed no foresight at all and deserve to have their idiocy exposed. Besides, it's not as though they can hide the fact that the girl is pregnant.

I'm sorry, my first reaction was to laugh.

That situation seems very puritanical and scary.

Edit: This thread will definitely degrade into a flamefest of monumental proportions!

I went to a Catholic HS and we had a few girls who got preggers during Sr. year. They were allowed to attend until they started "showing" and then they had to leave because the principle felt it was "too distracting to other students." Brings back bad memories of the catholic school and why I don't expect to enroll any children in them beyond maybe basic elementary level.

Next thing you know, they'll be sending out letters to all the parents saying that a few of the students have been found to be witches, and a public burning will be held this weekend.

Okay. They did something wrong by the school rules. They got in trouble. It was not unreasoneable. Why does it seem so to you?

Sidenote: Did the boys who got these girls knocked up attend the school? If so, they should be expelled as well.

I DO NOT plan on keeping her in that school. The wife and I have made concessions in our belief systems and I have agreed that she could be involved in religion early on in life while later in her life cycle, she will attend the public school system. Of course I condone logic and reasoning and I will draw the line when my child becomes one of blind faith. At age 5, God is a powerful "third parent" for her though, so I'm not afraid to leverage that when necessary, as blasphemous and bastardly as that may seem to the believers.

When I was a Junior I went to a small school in PA. Only 42 students in my class. Moved and was in another school my senior year and went back to visit during their graduation.

Found out 16% of the senior class (7 girls) had gotten pregnant.:Q:Q

Yes, both students attend the school (male and female) and they both got the very same punishment. One's will last about 9 more months though and one, the other or both will suffer for the next 18. 😉

You are paying good money to send your daughter to a place run by the people that did this. What happens when they decide that your daughter has, "stepped outside the boundaries of acceptable behavior", for whatever reason, and they broadcast whatever she did to the entire community without your consent?

Oh, after forcing her to seek forgiveness from a being you don't beleive exists.

Ahh ok. I read it as if it were two girls that were expelled for some reason. 😕 Clear sign that I need to go to bed!

What people do on their own time outside of school is NO business of the schools unless it endangers students. They are under NO obligation to apoligize to ANYONE, sure as hell not the faculty, administration and school board, even if it is a private catholic school.

Consider a new school for your child. Seriously. A school should be a place where kids can be free to grow and prosper... I don't mean grow and prosper by not having sex, but by not having to worry about the school sticking them to a strict and demeaning set of policies that chastizes people for things that they shouldn't be sticking their noses in.

I'm not saying don't send your kid to a private catholic school, but this place sounds like a bunch of morons that give religious persons a bad name.

Secondly, if you can find time to, go to the PTA/PTO/School board/whatever meetings and rip them a new one. You're smarter than to take their bull.
