IT'S OFFICIAL: Christian Bale IS Batman
POSTED ON 09/11/03 AT 3:00 P.M.
BY THOMAS CHAU

Warner Bros. has officially announced that Christian Bale will play Batman in the next "Batman" pic, which will begin filming in January. Below is the press release:

Christian Bale has been cast in the starring role of Bruce Wayne in Warner Bros. Pictures upcoming Batman movie, to be directed by Christopher Nolan and produced by Emma Thomas. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President of production for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Principal photography on the film is expected to begin in early 2004. The movie is written by David Goyer and Nolan, and will follow the early career of The Dark Knight.

Said Nolan, What I see in Christian is the ultimate embodiment of Bruce Wayne. He has exactly the balance of darkness and light that we were looking for.

Robinov stated, Now that weve found the best person to play Batman, we are really looking forward to moving ahead with the rest of our casting, and are excited about the exceptional group we are assembling.

Glad it wasn't either Joshua Jackson, Ashton Kutcher, Jake Gallenhyle or Carrot Top.

good. i saw a list of all the actors they were considering, and Bale was the one that stood out to me. the other's looked like they had no business even NEAR Wayne Manor.

Much better choice than George Clooney. I like George, but a latex bat suit just isn't him.

He looks like Joe from that old sitcom 'Wings'

The superhero movie theme is getting beaten to death IMHO. What next... Underdog The Movie?

Aquaman! Actually..i'm surprised a "new and improved" Captain America hasn't been released yet. It would sell millions. Just have the story laid out, and him beating up some brown people. America would love it!

cool! christian bale is cool. i still have to check out that equilibrium movie.

it looks like chris nolan will be the director! (insomnia)

taken from movies.go.com:

The fifth installment was initially based on Frank Miller's graphic novel Batman: YO, a film-noir-infused, four-issue story written in 1987 and published by DC Comics that detailed Bruce Wayne's first year as Batman, including the self-doubts and blunders he had to overcome in order to emerge as a full-blown crime fighter. Now director Christopher Nolan has taken over the series, with the film based on another script, titled Batman: The Frightening, which features The Scarecrow as the lead baddie.

He did Insomniac and Memento. Rather odd choice for a super hero movie. But then again, Sam Ramis was an odd choice for Batman, and IMHO that turned out very well. With Nolan, I'd expect a much darker, and more elaborate plot/atmosphere.
