Alright...the answer is Cornell HANDS DOWN!!!!

the man is a hero...soundgarden, temple of the dog, audioslave and his solo stuff...he has excellent music in all of it

I saw Cornell live and it was amazing...first off it was all floor seating with a 250-300 person max with a decent price for tickets ($60) and it was truly amazing

His voice is something that cannot be replicated, the power and emotion puts all others to shame and even his stage presence was awesome.

during be yourself he jumped off the stage and climbed the barrier to hold peoples hands...although he did not hold mine their was a brief moment where his hand did touch mine

but the raw power when he played spoonman was electrifying and the emotion in like a stone (unplugged) basically stopped the crowd

I will be there the next time he comes to my city and I will be there for every one of his albums because he is the absolute best and anyone you compare him to is not worthy to have his name mentioned in the same breath

I saw Cornell live this year, but it was at a much bigger venue. I was probably 50 feel from the stage, and it was...incredible. Spoonman was electric, as you mentioned, and Like A stone hushed the crowd over.

I'll gladly go see him again at any cost. His voice isn't what it used to be, but I can't even describe it. It's just raw emotion in his voice. Watching him sing from that close was amazing.

I started like 15 feet from the stage and a lot of people would not budge but when he did be yourself i pushed myself and friends to the front for the rest of the concert

Of those two only Chris Cornell has participated in the making of good music, so he gets my vote :)

I prefer Cornell's voice, but you'd have to be tone deaf to claim that he's a better/more accomplished/more talented musician than Dave Grohl.

Personally, I can not stand Cornell's voice for some reason....Grohl for me...

The criteria is best all-around musician, not best singer. Grohl must win this. If it was best singer, Cornell.

Superunknown > any of Foo's albums, and I'm saying this based on the input of Cornell / Grohl respectively. Grohl can put together better radio material, IMO, but as far as better lyrics and musical ability, I think Cornell has Grohl beat for sure.

Grohl is good for a few songs here and there, but most of the tracks on the Foo Fighter's albums are skippable to me...

Can't believe this is even being discussed, much less Dave Grohl winning the poll. The guy plays 3 chord songs. I'm sure he's a great guy, no doubt. But anyone saying he's a better musician needs to turn off their fucking radio for a few weeks to try and unclog their head from the pop culture brainwashing.

Funny, I feel the same way about Cornell. His voice is so freakin nasally, it's unbearable. And the question about who's a better musician? Hands down, Grohl. Oh, and he's insane live - fun to watch, very energetic.

winner winner, chicken dinner. I'm not a Cornell whore by any means, but I can't believe this is even an issue. Grohl writes for the radio, and that = instant fail in comparison to someone who, well, hasn't or doesn't. Cornell's older stuff proves he's a better artist overall. Nothing Foo's ever done has been as deep or meaningful as some of Cornell's older stuff. Go listen to "Like Suicide" and tell me if Grohl has ever written something so engrossing and involving. Listen to the progression and the energy being poured into the progressino of the song. It takes patience to start slow and mount to a head, it creates an experience for the listener, rather than just "a good song." It's not the most amazing song ever, but I think it puts what Grohl is and isn't about into perspective.

Cornell is a musician as well as a singer/songwriter like Grohl. He was Soundgarden's original drummer and also plays guitar.

Both these guys are immensely talented and both have enjoyed commercial success as well as critical acclaim. They can both hold their own solo across multiple genres of music, and have both collaborated with some of the best talent in the music business. Both are also capable of being completely irritating and mediocre.

I'm more familiar with Dave Grohl's all around musicianship, so I'd give him the nod over Cornell's obviously superior vocals....and Grohl's clowny antics crack me up :)

I heard Chris Cornell on Howard Stern sing a cover of 'Billy Jean' by Michael Jackson and it was amazing (although, the version he released on his solo album wasn't nearly as good). He really is an incredible talent.
