CHP Officer killed this morning.

I wasn't going to get involved in this "CHP shouldn't be so focused on speeding" argument J0hnny and the rest are having, but then I saw this winner of an argument:

It is still the law you prick.
It's still the law... it's still the law. Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, Nazi Germany! Remember that law they had about how certain races and religions had to be relocated places for "their own protection"?

Just because something is the law doesn't make it right. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, I'm saying you should use better arguments.

Sucks about the cop, but most Highway Patrol officers are well aware of the risks when they join up. It's damn satisfying to know that he managed to get the description and plate number out before he died though. I have little doubt the people will be caught and punished, and I think there's a distinct chance the DA will decline to accept any plea deal. Fry, motherf%$#er, fry.

Very sad. Cop killers are the lowest of low and should be hunted down.

QFT.

That is very sad. They should hunt down both the driver and the shooter and torture them to death slowly and painfully and leave their rotting corpses out in the sun until they bloat up and explode only to be eaten by maggots and buzzards.

Or not.

Did he meet his quota?

I agree with the sentiment but it just came out bad that way. Next time say, maybe if cops were asked to do more meaningful work instead of HP to catch speeders or expired registrations, it may not have happened.

Why don't you go street race some more, speed racer.

Maybe CHP wouldn't have to catch speeders if people stopped breaking the fvcking law.

QFT

Maybe if speed limits weren't fvking designed to generate revenue and instead based on realistic driving conditions.

QFT

Stay on topic ppl.

Gee, wasn't Timothy McVeigh pulled over on a traffic violation?

Yep... thank God that particular arresting police officer didn't have "better" things to be doing than worrying about someone speeding on a state highway...

As a cop you get the license plate, and if the guy runs - you wait and show up at his house later or track the fvcker down. You don't endanger the lives of everyone on the freeway by chasing him.

This may be unrelated - but I had to get that off my chest.

When someone flees from the police, it's usually because they are wanted for something else.

Furthermore, it's pretty safe to assume your average fugitive would not be driving in a car registered in their name (pretty hard to get plates when you have a warrant out for your arrest)-- so you can pretty much assume whatever plate numbers the officer has are either forged or stolen.

All you h8ters suck.

I used to work in LE. And to hear you folks badmouth the guy that got shot?? You don't know his intentions, or the shooter's intentions, or anything.

In any case, a person who commited their lives to enforcing the law (READ: helping your sorry arses when you get into a bind and have to call the cops) got taken down, and that's sad. Luckily, he had enough wits about him to call the vehicle in.

We hear so many stories about bad cops and dirty crooks, etc etc. To hear one about a crook that came out on top (albeit temporarily) saddens me.....

RIP

EDIT: It appears he called in the vehicle info as part of the stop, which is routine. Not called in after he went down or anything....

Uh, except not. Here we get to choose our laws. If the majority of people thought the law was wrong, it would be changed. But they don't. So follow it or get out.

I was driving on hwy 99 from Fresno to Kingsburg this morning, and a couple of the message signs had the description of the car and the license plate. I hope the scumbag gets caught :|.

For the traffic stop haters... do you realize how many more drivers with no insurance, suspended licenses, warrants, etc would be on the roadway if it werren't for traffic stops?

Do you realize how many still get busted even though they know they run the risk of being caught for a minor offense?

Anyways, sucks for this officer. I'm suprised that he didn't call in the vehicle description before he got shot. We're not even allowed out of the car (by the book) untill our dispatcher has the vehicle info and the location of the stop.

I agree here. My brother (a CHP officer) routinely finds other things when he pulls people over for routine violations such as a broken taillight. It is very common for him to find open containers of alchohol, marijuana usage, etc. It's scary to think how much more dangerous the roads would be like...and this is only the people that are caught. How many more are not caught?

how stupid do you have to be to kill someone during a traffic stop, when the cop already has called in the license plate number? Unless of course the car was stolen.

Don't confuse them with facts about law enforcement.

Large numbers of "real criminals" are apprehended and "real crimes" prevented by officers pulling over vehicles for minor violations or suspicious behavior. You know, like maybe a car driving around slowly at 4 am in a quiet residential area like they're scoping out places to rob.

But then again, maybe this officer should have been doing "real law enforcement" instead of being suspicious and harassing this law abiding citizen who happened to have a gun and didn't think twice about killing an armed policeman. After all, what are the chances that the guy had ever committed a crime or was in the process of committing one. The officer should have been trying to get "real criminals" off the streets instead. 😕
