Funny timing. I wish I had a musical mind sometimes. Have tried on several occasions to pick up piano/keyboard. I am pretty good at spotting melodies/chords and inserting terrible lyrics in many songs, but my hand coordination is better suited to turning wrenches and finessing hydraulic controls of construction equipment.

I think I have the brain of a composer more so than musician. I score really high in pitch and tone discernment tests, suited towards music. I intuitively understand phrasing and timing. I constantly "hear" music in my mind and even have some musical hallucinations when I'm asleep or very sleepy (related to narcolepsy hallucinations). I can also tell what key changes or modulation work well together or are compatible and which do not.

NONE of this I've ever had to "work at" or "practice", or have taken any formal training/courses to learn. It was just something that I came into through listening to music. But god damnit, I really suck at playing. I mean, I practice something for three or four hours and then fucking forget the chords the next weekend, I have to look them up again. WTF??

I just started learning chord progressions after playing classical music for 12 years.

The keys are super easy... the hard part is the voicing. Voicings are everything.

Don't tell me those are the actual voicings you are using... you'd get shot for that if you were playing jazz. It's all about the voicing.
