Chopsticks are badass weapons of death. A well thrown chopstick will go through a steel plate. And if you get caught with some chopsticks, what are they gonna do to you? Cop: Yeah chief, we had to bring him in, he was packing chopsticks.

Chopsticks also allow you to show off your manual dexterity.

As for whether a fork is superior to a pair of chopsticks, it all depends on what you're eating. Keep in mind that Asian cultures that use chopsticks have evolved food preparation to match the eating utensils. While I can eat almost anything with a pair of chopsticks, I tend to eat all Asian foods with chopsticks but western foods I eat with a fork.

They actually do use spoons and forks as well.

Chopsticks are very handy with many foods. I use them myself over a fork many times and I am of Irish decent.

I'm fine with Chinese people using it all the time, but if you're white, and you ONLY eat Oriental cuisine with chopsticks and everything else with a fork, fuck you you pretentious douchebag.

I use the utensils I'm given when I eat out. The only douchey behavior I can see would be asking for chopsticks at a Filipino restaurant which is based on the erroneous assumption that all Asians use chopsticks.

Sort of funny related story. My wife is Asian and from Hawaii. My mother-in-law never learned to use chopsticks (Filipino and Hawaiian parents). When we go out to eat my MiL will ask for a fork and 90% of the time the server will bring the fork to me (the goofy white guy) instead of her.

Eating Chinese with chopsticks slows down the meal ...

If I'm hungry and in a rush I'm packing a set of chopsticks in each hand and bending down to my bowl.

It probably looks similar to someone pointing the business end of a vacuum cleaner at their food. 😀

Chopsticks are the best; I use them whenever I possibly can.

same here. i have a nice set of chopsticks at home and i love to use them!

and when i get chinese/japanese food, i always make sure i grab a set of chopsticks. although they are bit wasteful, there is something weirdly satisfying about the pop of separating wooden chopsticks.

i didn't know that made me a pretentious d-bag. does it help if i lived in japan for a while?
