choppy video & audio

Hi All.

I have suddenly started having problems with both games and DVD'S playing on my PC.
They take longer to start up, and although they start okay, the video is choppy on them.
I have updated my Video Card Drivers to no avail. In someways it appears that my system as a whole is slower than it was yesterday!
I have run spybot, and there is no spywear I have detected either...
Nothing worse than playing choppy games & watching DVD'S.
Normal audio is fine, but gets choppy when having the video going.
Any help very much appreciated:

System Info:
Windows XP Pro Latest SP
NVIDA 7800GT 256MB PCI
AMD Athlon64 3800+
1024 GB of memory
2x BenQ DVD DW1640

Check the IDE/ATA controller that hosts the drives in Device Manager, and see if it's reverted to PIO mode rather than an UltraDMA mode. If so, delete the controller from Device Manager and reboot, so it can be redetected. If the problem persists, try a flat, boring, undamaged 80-wire IDE cable (not a rounded cable) too.

Didn't work, but thanks for the help.
I check the device manager, but it is as should be, and also changed the cable- all to no avail. I even tried deleting the device manager, but it was still the same when it was redetected.

Do you have anything else that might help?
