choppy mouse in windows 98.

the cursor seems to move alot smoother in windows xp than in 98, on the same machine. like the mouse refresh rate is lower in 98. is there a tweak to increase the mouse refresh rate in 98?
 
I used to use a program calles ps2rate for that back in the day when I used Windows 98 (assuming you're using a PS/2 mouse)...worked really well. But I have to echo the question "why are you bothering with Windows 98 these days?" 😕
 
please, this isn't a thread about why would I use windows 98. its for my class we are learning about windows 98 (many people still use it). and i want to mess with my old computer.

Increase the PS/2 mouse rate with ps2rate like Synth said. You can also try bumping your display's refresh rate.
