Choppy DVD Audio?

Whenever I play a DVD, the audio is choppy. I think that this might have something to do with the AC-3 codec and the fact that I don't believe it's supported by my sound card(SB AWE64 Gold). Any suggestions or other help would be greatly appreciated.
