Choosing the right case

Hi there,

I'm about to buy a new case, but still am pretty unsure on which to choose.

I narrowed it down a bit so far:
Lian Li PC-G70
Lian Li PC-201
Silverstone TJ09
Coolermaster Stacker TC-01
TT Armor
Lian Li PC-S80

It will be primarily used for air cooling, with maybe liquid in the future.
I wonder which would be better in terms of ventilation, cable management and dust filters.

Also, I read that some of these have a different motherboard/power supply setup than the classic one(anyone care to indicate which of them exactly?), and I was curious on to how this affected cable management..

Thanks for any help

I think that the Stacker T01 is one of the best cases for extreme systems available. Most of the other cases listed aren't in that market. What kind of system are you building. Define that and you'll have largely picked the case yourself.

Well, I'm trying to improve ventilation for a system I already have.
E6600, P5B Deluxe, 2gb TeamGroup Xtreem 667Mhz, 8800gts 640mb(looking to add a HR03+), and the rest is the usual, raptor, x-fi, etc.

I had a Coolermaster GeminiII, but the board doesn't seem to like the weight, so waiting for Thermalright's Ultima 90, maybe changing motherboard later on.

Staying air for now, I might consider liquid in the future. Just looking for something to improve overclocking environment. I have various S-Flex, Nexus and papst fans to use, so mostly, I'm just looking for best airflow, and good air filtering, it gets dusty frequently where I work.

I was going TJ09, just exploring any other options, since it costs quite a bit.
Saw the Lian Lis, but I was wondering if their motherboard/psu mounting system would get in the way of cable management, causing obstructions to the airflow.

Stacker was second choice if I couldn't get better info on the Lian Lis, is there a signficant difference between T01 and 830?

Thanks for the answers so far. ^^

Lian-Li cases stink! Forget them!

As for significant differences between the T01 and 830...

The T01 has 2x120mm & 2x80 fans -- the 830 has 9x120mm fans! :D

Before I forget, welcome to the AT forums.

The T01 is about half the price - the circular spot on the side looks like it was made for a 250mm fan. It can handle two PSUs (much cheaper than one large one). Any size mobo, any size vid card(s). Very customizable. Drawbacks, can be noisy and dusty without good component choices, but like I said it is for extreme systems. In that price range I would look at the XClio Windtunnel too. The TJ09 is a really nice case but I can't see spending that kind of money on ANY case.

You might also want to look at the Global Win case mentioned in the Akasa thread here. Perhaps the best mostly aluminum case you can get for under $100. here in the states.

Lol, mind giving a few reasons? :p

I noticed you put the TT above the Stacker though, how come?

Sorry if I ask a lot of questions ^^

Oh, thanks, I missed the 830 since the shop I was looking at had them out of stock, only saw 831 and 832.

The drawbacks are related to the 830, or T01? Cause they're pretty big drawbacks in my opinion.

I'll check out the XClio too, just gotta find some place that sells it.

So you rule out Lian Lis as well?

And if the TJ09 has what I need, I don't mind spending a bit more if it's really worth it

Well there are only 200, 250 and 360mm fans (and you can't get those 360s separately yet). I don't think Vin and I care for Lian Li as a company. But you might find a couple of decent ones amongst the 90s throwback designs. ;)

Well, ruling out Lian Li, I guess Silverstone is my choice, if the Stacker tends to get dusty; it's only 20? more and I don't mind paying that to get rid of the damn dust. Otherwise XClio if I find anyone selling one around here.

Unless there's something someone wants to add and I forgot to consider. ^^

Thanks for the help, Zepper and VinDSL :)

EDIT: Oh, forgot the Armor. Would it be worth it compared to the Silverstone?

Most Lian-Li cases are built with the components mounted upside-down, inside-out, assbackwards, and all the rest of it. The have cute little secret chambers that fry your drives when the fart-fan dies. The intake fans are in the back and the exhaust fans in the front -- all kinds of weird sh!t, you know? They just make me wanna ralph!

Stackers are okay. The 830s rock! I just prefer the TT Armors to them, especially when it comes to waterworks. Call it a personal prejudice, I guess...

Really, none of this matters, except you asked...

Silverstone TJ09 cases are fly!!! Puts the rest to shame!

Of all the cases you mentioned, the TJ09 is the ONLY one I would consider buying -- and I'm damned picky! :D

Thanks for the explanation. ^^

Of the ones I mentioned, you say.. is there some case I forgot at that price range you'd consider buying instead, or should I just decide myself and get the darn TJ09? :p

I don't think you can beat a TJ09!

It took a LOT of trial & error before Silverstone got it right -- and they DID get it right with the TJ09. That case is awesome -- true perfection -- can't find a thing wrong with it, yada, yada!

If I was in the market for a normal case, that would be the one! :)

Didn't know you weren't in the States - complete your profile (there are two tabs) and make it public to avoid that in the future. The Windtunnel will be sold by a different name there. Either A+ Case or Maxpoint. The German Maxpoint site has links to it. they don't call it the Windtunnel there either.

I love my xclio windtunnel. It keeps my temps way down and is the only case I've seen that actually blows significant amounts of air over the hd bays and exhausts it from the case.

I had horrible problems with heat and the TJ09 made everything better and improved the OC on my graphics card and CPU. The design is so well thought out that the yate loons I installed with the silverstone fan controller-that looks hot to boot-keeps case and graphics cards temps so low I never have to crank up anything to keep things peachy. In reference, in my old coolermaster my 8800 ran 65 idle 79-85 some times 90 at load. Now it idles in the low 50s and under load wont break 65 running at 610-925. I know I can get more out of the card but I really dont need it. The top two intakes helps the CPU stay nice and cool and even with a zalman 9700 running at about 80 percent I stay below 50 under orthos load at 3.3 and under 60 at 3.5. I run it everyday at 3.3 because its fast enough.

Saw the XClio/Aplus here now, but it's a bit too "flashy" of a case for my type.

I was thinking of getting two Scythe Kama Meters for the fans(I'm guessing I'll have more than 4, and will most likely substitute the case fans for S-Flex/Noctua ones), worth it?
Never had a fan controller, so I don't really know how useful they are or what to look for.
