Choosing an OS

on this new rig i am planning to build i think that two OSes is a good idea. the OSes i plan to use is XP64 and either Lunix or Knoppix.

this rig is planned to be built in the near future.

xandros is free these days? I remember when Corel was developing it... it wasn't meant to be free... that was before Microsfot bought them, under the strict interdiction to continue Linux work...

There is a free for home use version out there.

yeah linux. it is in my understanding that by using a open source OS i could make my comp do things and have features that XP won't let me do.

Linux will probably run just fine, although I'd avoid nVidia chipsets if possible.

Yep...

If you want a natvie 64bit OS check out Fedora or Suse. They have good 64bit versions and have been running native AMD64 OSes for a while now.

as for XP64, there is no such thing right now. There is a beta version of WinXP-64, but it's going to be mostly useless as a real OS until MS releases the final version. But the 32bit version will run fine on AMD-64 hardware.

Assuming your talking about AMD-64 bit OSes.

here is some bittorrent links for the various Fedora Core 2 versions Don't worry about the "source" images, that's just source code. Download the binary ISO images. Then just burn the ISO images "as a image" to your cdrom. here is the forums specificly for Fedora

yeah im planning on using the Asus SK8V mobo with is a VIa chipset.

i could use that and regular XP and just upgrade.
