Choosing A Video Card

Hi,

It's my first time doing this sort of stuff since I'm more of a console than a PC guy. I recently bought a computer: (specs and other stuff)

I also checked the video card settings using this program, and the specs for that are:

I know this isn't the strongest video card :p but I was looking for some decent video cards and I came across the XFX Radeon HD 5570 Video Card. I know that some video cards are not compatible with some computers, but in my case is it compatible with my computer? And is it worth getting this card? I found it online for about $85. And does it matter if I have a PCI and it requires PCI express 2.1?

Thank you,

Sorry, I'm still new with this :/.

I wonder why that pc came with 32bit when it has 4gb of memory installed. yeah a 5570 would be a massive upgrade over what you have and you would not have to worry about your power supply. $85 for a 5570 is not a good price at all for that level of performance though. you can get the XFX 5670 512mb gddr5 for the same price

Thanks for the quick reply, would it be a problem with the PCI thing? And what should the normal price be? Is this card able to run games that are currently out?

Thank you :)

Ah, thanks! Do you recommend any other card? I'm willing to spend about a $100 max, are there any good cards that I can get? That have a 1gb memory?

I'm not trying to bust your balls, but get a better card man.

A Saphire 5750 uses 1 4 pin molex power connecter (with adapter that come with it) and will fit just fine in your tower. Even with the stock 300 watt psu (If I'm right?) it will work just fine with your low power non overclocked e5200.

Cost 130$ shipped.

Edit: @ 1650x 1050 it's the perfect card.

That's a bit pricey for a HD5570. I saw HD5670s cheaper. Also, if you want a decent video card, aim for HD5750 at the very least imo. Should also work on pretty much any 400W PSU. Though do check how much power your PSU can supply and how many amperes it provides on the 12V line. It should be written on your PSU - there should be a table on it somewhere.

PCI is not the same as PCI express. But your motherboard should have a PCI express slot. The version doesn't matter (1.0, 1.1, 2.0 or 2.1). All PCI-e cards are compatible with every version.

Well whenever I'm on my dad's computer (he has an ATI HD something xD), I'm usually playing games around 1600 x 900, well at least I think i am.
the 1gb 5670 will run you about 115 bucks which isnt all that great. the 5570 1gb are around 90-95 bucks which isnt all that great either. if you get a 5570 just make sure its ddr3 NOT ddr2 because those are much slower.

LOL, thanks :p. I know, I was suprised when I got the computer, it came with a really shitty video card... are there any other cards lower than $100? :p I have a max of $105 in my paypal, so I can't really afford that one :(. So I really shouldn't get the 5570 right?

If I end up buying the 5570 DDR3 retail, would it be cheaper than the ones online?

There is no reason to get a 1gb card for under 5750 performance is there?

His choices are XFX hd5670 512mb for 85$ or a 5750 1gb for 130$ which is much faster.

no retail sucks. Online is your best bet.

Danyal, if your gonna buy a card please don't buy a 5570, they are crap.

At least buy the 5760 I linked above for 85$ online.
Ask your Dad to borrow the credit card and give him the cash. :)

I think the xbox 360 does better graphics and performs better then a 5570.:(

I knew it :p

Like I said, I'm sorta low on money for my paypal, should I just get the 5570? I saw youtube videos of people running some new games on high settings, and they didn't seem to get any lag.

Believe me, save your pennies and go for at least a 5670 for 85$.
You will thank me later. I repeat the 5570 sucks @ 1650x1050 resolution.
People on u-tube are untrustworthy.

Yeah makes sense, if I do end up getting the 5670 1GB, is my computer compatible to it? I don't wanna get it and find out it's not compatible :p

the 5570 is basically dead even with a 4670 and is better than the xbox360 gpu which isnt even as good as an 8600gt. I already linked to that same xfx 5670 for him. and at 1600x900 512mb should be fine for that level of graphics in 95% of cases. the 1gb card would be nicer to have but they are overpriced juts like I already said.

A 5670 does not need 1gb of memory. It's not even powerfull enough to use it.
At the resolution your gaming at you will be fine with 512mb.
Since this is your first time in PC gaming, you will not be heavy in the aa/af I'm sure.

Just grab yourself a 512mb 5670, it's much faster then a 1gb 5570 any day.
It's a good starter card.

If you want a 1gb card, get a 5750 for 130$, thats where it starts to make use of the extra memory.

Really? But don't some games REQUIRE 1gb at least in their system requirements? o_O
Would it be able to run COD, Blur, Split second and other new games?

Thanks :)

Same advice from me :)
- get a HD5670 512MB if you can't spend more than the $85
- grab a HD5750 if you can come up with the extra cash

A HD5570 is bad value at that price.

EDIT:

Don't think I saw a game that required 1GB to run. At 1600x900 you could use the extra RAM only if you run high AA (and I mean extremely high, like AAx8). And even then 512MB should be plenty. Not to mention the HD5670 and lower cards are't fast enough anyway to run such AA levels in the first place. So yes, 512MB is plenty for the games you mention.

no games themselves require 1gb of video ram. a 5670 is a little too weak to be able to run settings that would utilize more than 512mb in most cases. a stronger video card will allow you to run higher setting thus the need for more than 512mb. a 5670 512mb at 1600x900 will be fine. theres nothing wrong with getting 1gb on the 5670 but for that price you might as well get a much faster 5750 1gb.

Probably 1GB of system memory (which is laughable actually), but not 1GB of video memory.

Funny you should ask.......

I just started playing Blur and Split second. COD,4,WAW,Modern warefare2 I finished a while back.

I play Split Second/Blur at the highest settings @ 1600x1200 with my 5750.
A 5670 is a good card for these games and should run it just fine.

By the way Blur sucks! Split Second is one of the best race games I've played in a while.:)

Here is a video of a e2160 (slower then your cpu) with a 5670 512mb playing Split Second.....not bad at all. :)
