cholesterol levels, yours and what have you done ?

I went to the doctor yesterday for a yearly check up .
Just got a call from the office that they want to see me first thing next week .
My ldl was 2200, they said normal was 150 or so.

A few years back I took lopid to lower it but then stopped, moved, new job, just never got back to the doc till yesterday.

So what have others done to lower the ldl ?
What helped most, food, exercise, drugs ?

2200!! I hope you at least meant 220, otherwise your heart is pumping pure beef fat.

My LDL was 143, so I cut way back on beef and pork and started eating lots of veggies and a year later it was down to 119.

Mine was 207 2 years ago, 219 last year and 194 this year. The only thing different was I started taking fish oil pills and eating more oatmeal in the mornin. I started running again since then so i'll be very curious what it is next year.

Back in January I was I 219. I exercised for 3 months, ate fruits, veggies oatmeal and never let up on myself. I was down to 179 within 3-4 months.

IIRC, my total was 127 in my junior year of high school, and essentially the same my senior year. I'm two years older now, but it's probably not changed. No I'm not some vegetarian, seems it's just luck of the genes.

The doctor told me I had the cholesterol of a newborn baby - and I'm 25. 😛 The number was below 100. I eat healthy, and exercise (but not as much as I should). My parents have higher values and they eat healthy too, so maybe its just a fluke?

i got a 330 or something and a letter from the doc telling me she'd put me on meds if it didn't improve. she'd've killed me with a 2200 :Q

was 220 in college (sophmore year). 3 or 4 years later I've lowered it to 141. I used a calorie restriction diet and did a lot of cardio work to restore normal body chemistry.

Mine was high enough that I was right on the borderline for medication. I (shit you not) went sorta anorexic for like 4 weeks, and my levels became better than normal and I went from 223 to 200 lbs.

Probably not the best method, and I've stopped that lil' routine, but now I make an extra effort to watch what I eat, and hopefully, in another 4-5 months, the bad cholesterol stays down.

I don't recall but my doc said it's fine where it's at, no concern at all. Just that I have a tad bit more uric acid than normal. I have to watch out for that otherwise kidney stones and gout can appear.

I am 50 yrs. old, morbidly obese, but in the process of dieting and mine came in at 109.

Blood sugar even came in at 4.8 and blood pressure was 115/75.

My doctor loves to roll her eyes when I tell her I'm the healthiest patient she has.

When I actually ran 4 times a week, lifted the other 3, and watched what I ate I lowered it to 205. Now it is easier to take Vitoryn (sp). Now with moderate exercise I am at about 150.

Can't remember what mine was but it was high. My family doctor still prescribes 40mg of simvastatin to be taken daily and my level is currently normal.

My dad is overweight and all his life has eaten pretty much what he wanted...some good, but mostly not.

My mother who is a nurse has always maintained a healthy diet, and watches her weight.

Last year they went and got their cholesterol checked....his was much lower well within the norm, my mom was perplexed and a bit miffed.

My father attributes it to the 2-3 Rusty Nails he has a week at the local watering hole.

Score one for booze!

My doc told me the same thing. Even with borderline high BP and borderline high LDL.
