i'm building a 1.4 ghz tbird. i've never built my own comp b4, so dunno much about it. can someone please provide me with a list of some possible motherboards that are out there for the 1.4 ghz tbird? i'm not looking to overclock just yet, but i do want to leave that possibility open. my main concerns are money and stability. i dont want my comp to be crashing every other day.

also someone told me to wait for a "socket 478 boards with the via Px266 chipset for ddram"....what exactly did he/she mean by that?
what's a socket-478.

i would appreciate all the help i can get.

also what's better.... DDR ram or pc2100 unbuffered ram?

Socket 478 is a newer version of the Pentium 4. If you are looking to upgrade right now, there are 3 or 4 good boards for the T-bird 1.4. The ECS K7S5A ($60-65) the Epox 8K7A ($120-140) the Gigabyte GA-7DXR ($154 up) or the Abit KG7 in 3 versions ($140-180). Socket 478 is already out. The 1.7 starts at about $200, and the first AZZA board with the via ddr chipset (p4x266) is out Wednesday.

If you want stability you should consider the ASUS A7M266 as well. One of the most stable DDR boards out there. Goes for around $167 here. It also has some limited overclocking abilities. I run my 1.33 @ 1.45 with it. Not the cheapest board out there, but certainly worth it.
