In the old days, if you ran a disk utility and it found lost clusters, it would prompt you to save or delete them. If you chose to save them, they were saved with the extention of .chk They were safe to delete because they were unrecoverable.
The other day when using NERO which displays your C drive in its own explorer window, I saw numerous folders on my C drive and D drive named FOUND.000 FOUND.0001 etc.
When I closed out Nero, I went to the Windows Explorer and checked my C drive and D drive and could not see these folders. I even did a search, but N.G.
I then went to Tools, Folder Options, View and unchecked the box that said "Hide Protected Operating System Files" and refreshed my Explorer window.
Now it displayed the folders named FOUND.xxx and in each were files ending in .chk In fact, most of them were on the same date that they were created.
The files totaled almost 800 megs.
So, does anyone know if they can be deleted ? It seems that since almost all of them were dated the same date, that maybe I crashed that date and it saved them automatically as .chk files ?
Any one know anything about them and are they safe to delete ?

If your sure you don't need the data you can remove them. Windows hides them by default because they frankly confuse novice users who don't know what to do with them, thus generating a support call.

agreed. "back in the day", there was a chance you could make use of this data, but nowadays, its hardly worth the time/effort. just delete them :)
