Looking for the longest lasting dye and/or secrets of reducing how quickly color fades. I have dark brown hair naturally, but at the moment it's black w/green highlights. I usually keep it black and switch between red, green, blue and purple highlights.

Thanx in advance,

Lethal

Get a haircut, freak. 😛

I did get a hair cut (14" ponytail was donated to locks of love in July). 🙂 But it's boring having short hair, so I toss in some color to spice things up. 😀

BTW, I don't have red, green, blue, and purple in my hair at the same time (it was red, now it's green... and I'm thinking purple for the holidays... 🙂)

Shouldn't you really be making it red AND green for the holidays?

Since I don't know anything about hair dye, I'm just going to bust your balls for the duration of the thread. 😛

Yeah, this is why I'm trying to court the punk and goth members of ATOT (if there are any). Coloring my hair w/a natural shade is no sweat, but the colored highlights are giving me issues.

Well, you are not going to get anything that last's a long time out of a box from the store. Go to a professional salon. There is a relatively new colour line by 'Goldwell' called Elumen and it has a very long lasting colour.

The stylist will know all about it, you have to phone the salon and make sure they have it first though. Good luck!🙂

I don't know if Indianpolis will have a good hair place if not you might consider making a weekend of coming to Chicago and having the following done as it will look truly badass....

Arriving with black dyed hair... have your roots bleached and then colored with a Dark Red like Red Wine.

Had it done as a kid and got no end of comments (mostly positive) 😉

I highly reccomend:
Milios - Tattoos, piercing,& hair.
773.549.1461
959 W Belmont

Pricey but probably the best.

EDIT: And thanx for yer info too djheater.

ive tried a bunch of different dyes (no, im not goth or anything, the swim team bleaches and dyes their hair every year), and pretty much every kind ive tried always comes out in the pool (cuz of the chlorine). but most semi-permanent or permanent dies will last you awhile, and wont come out in regular water (some even with soap in it).

haha nice work 😀

hair dye is teh suck 🙂

If you're really looking for long lasting, go with henna. On the upside it will be more lustrous and natural looking and it will only come out when your hair grows out. The downside is you probably won't get the pitch black you want and you won't be able to strip it out and change colors. If you try to strip it, it will likely oxidize and turn brilliant green. Oh, and you probably can't use it with the colored highlights. It might work if you work with a stylist who will be able to hold out strips for the accent colors, but doing it yourself it isn't going to happen.
