Chipset!

What kind of chipset should be on my new motherboard.

I checked out some reviews about recent motherboards, and they say the following:

1. A Via Appolo 133 chipset is cheap but it is slow when it comes to memory

2. A 820 chipset is one of the best but it isn't stable

3. A 440bx chipset is old but is faster then a Via Appolo when it comes to memory

I just don't know it anymore. 😕

And when I buy a motherboard with one of these chipsets, what kind should it be?

A 3D card (don't know yet what one)
min. 128Mb ram 133mhz 7ns


And I must be able to upgrade all these things sometime

I would recommend looking at the i815E chipset at this point.

If you can wait a bit longer??? & possibably look @ running AMD?\
Because (better)DDR supported chipsets are about to hit the market.
AMD is really starting to shine.

But if you choose to stay with Intel, the 815 looks good. 🙂

I still like the BX (Abit's BX133-RAID is sweet!), but if you need to move up from that the 815e is your best bet. Doesn't have all the bugs of the 820, uses PC133, and has alot of nice goodies on the board. I use the CUSL2 and after the initial problems it's been solid as a rock. Later!

The best all around Intel based chipset is the i815.

It does cost much more than the others.

If you're looking to build/buy and entirely new system, AMD is the way to go. The AMD CPUs are faster and 2/3 the price of a comparable Intel and the motherboards with the KT133 chipset seem to be fairly good.
